At today's meeting (7th April 2022) the following was discussed; LOFT/PREMISES REGISTRATION The process for registering lofts was outlined. Details on how to register will be published in the next two weeks via DEFRA/RPRA and other unions. From what we are told this will be a relatively straight forward process that can be done online or via a form that can be posted to DEFRA A somewhat surprising point was that the EU require lofts, that wish to take part in channel racing to be registered with a veterinary practice and have at least one visit from a veterinarian per year. It was stated that you will not need to have had a visit from a veterinarian before registering or racing but you will be expected to have a visit within the year and each year thereafter. VACCINATION All birds in the loft will have to be vaccinated not just the ones you are racing. THE EXPORT HEALTH CERTIFICATE DEFRA are seeking clarity from the EU in respect of one part of the certificate before publishing and providing guidance for the official veterinarians that are required to sign the export health certificate on behalf of the convoy. As mentioned above the details regarding processes of registration will be published within the next two weeks. Ian Evans CEO

early days but uk fanciers or anything associated with uk were never going to have things made easy by the EU.
People can't vote for Brexit and expect anything else, on reflection nobody considered what would happen with racing channel pigeons at the time, just assumed things would stay the same I suppose, myself included.

i wonder if boris and his gang have made any restrictions or made anything harder for EU members, or has it all been one way ...?

making things harder can work both ways ifour government had a back bone, but considering no one knows what deals were made i doubt we will have come out of it well .

The vets will be laughing all the way to the bank.

Biggest abuse of the love of their clients animals in my opinion.

Carry out numerouse expensive tests that prove negative, along with medications that need a vets perscription when not supplied by the vet you can get the medication cheaper but have to pay for the perscription.

Bit like our MPs abuse of position.

Regards.

i thought the common or garden vet wasnt very clued up where pigeons are concerned, would fanciers need to register with an rpra / defra approved vet ?

also what would the vet be required to do on the loft visit ?

When the fowl decease was a problem I thought mine had it and reported it.

Next day a vet turned up put a load of protective gear on and disinfectant on and examined the poultry, hens and bantams etc;

Wether the vet was a Government one or not I know not but I certainly did not nor would not have paid for the vet.

This appears to be in reverse, you have to prove your pigeons are free of the problem.

Regards.

ive heard talk of it could turn into the vet vaccinating the pigeons rather than other fanciers .......they always seem to have some trick up their sleeves .
