| Hi all, I currently have staying in my aviary a healthy reverse wing pouter found hiding under someone's car on Christmas day. Ring number reported to NPA and rpra but isn't a registered number. Found Sawley, near Long Eaton. Derbyshire. If anyone knows of any such type missing, please could you message me. Owner to confirm ring number. Bird contained, eating drinking and doing fine. |

| Hi Kate,
Happy New Year.
Wish I was as fit as the pigeon.
If it is not registered the owner cannot be a very good person and the pigeon would be better off with you or someone you know would give it a good home.
Kind regards. |

| Happy New Year Misty and many thanks for the quick reply. Yes I must admit I was wondering that but not knowing about how it worked was unsure. Well one of the rescue ferals has taken a great shine to it, as has my daughter ! It's a very lovely bird. Have deliced as was riddled. Seems otherwise fit. Yes I too wish I was as fit as said bird. In the meantime is there any advice on any difference with looking after fancy birds, I have no prior experience having only dealt with rescue ferals and racers. Thanks in advance. |

| Hi Kate, Think all types of pigeons can be fed the same basic diet but would advise grit being available, any kind of mix would be fine.
Tis us pigeon fanciers racing that muck things up feed wise in many cases, keep things simple.

| That's great, thanks misty! Yes I use grit anyway for the ferals and rescues so it sounds pretty much the same....seems happy enough anyway. |

Nice to see someone who cares today.
Seems a happy little fellow or girl.
Perhaps you could tell us about your involvement rescuing our' feathered friends.

| Thanks Misty, I have always loved all birds since as a child we saved a baby sparrow, that lived with us in the house free flying till he died at the age of 10. We tried to release on a couple of occasions to no avail. She kept coming back! More recently...2 years ago, we found a racing pigeon who was already too sick and died a month later of respiratory problems. Since then I have housed numerous ferals and racers that have come my way....first in the house! Until we made a small aviary outside. They are all such wonderful characters. The ferals are easier in a way as when they get there wings back working they are off! Very satisfying after being told they'll never fly and to be put to sleep by some vets. It can take time but provided they are safe from predators I've found they usually get better. I have read that the reverse wing pouter is semi non flying? Which I can't really get my head around as confused to how it could have escaped? |

| Nothing stranger than nature at times Kate.
People who have no connection with animals and birds etc; miss out much in life.
Can be heart breaking Kate at times but the pleasure can be beyond comprehension.
Kept numerous different animals and birds etc;
Learned a lesson from my dad, said I should always feed the animals etc; I had before I
had mine.
Keep up the good work Kate not too many caring people around these days.
Regards. |

| Sounds like your dad had things right....and wise words from yourself too! Yes I just find it really heartbreaking and depressing that people can't see the beauty in these beautiful birds. Very sad....they are such wonderful creatures and great parents. |

| love the pics ,thank for sharing....i take it you only have the 2 now...i rescued a pair of squabs when i was working on a roof and reared them and one left once it was able to fly the other stayed on a tower block balcony with me and he was flying out ,i then moved across town some 15 miles away and took the bird with me and he flew away for 2 weeks but returned with a feral hen amazing when you consider he was only at the new adress 48 hours, he then stayed at the new adress with the hen until they disappeared a few months later and never returned ,they have more about them than we give credit for ...keep up the good work |

| Thanks Kate.
Makes a nice change from doom and gloom and think you would make a good pigeon fancier, although I feel would not be too happy with some fanciers.
Keep up the good work and keep in touch.
Pictures tell a story and yours is a wonderful one.

Regards. Thanks misty, I must admit I do love them. It's a bit addictive really and I'm sure that in a parallel universe I would love to be a pigeon fancier. As for not being happy with some fanciers....as with any group of people there's those that are passionate for the right reasons and some for the wrong reasons. |
