| A big thank you to Royal Pigeon Racing Association for their donation of £2,000 presented at their annual British Homing World Show in Blackpool last month. When the show started in 1973 it was designed to provide a welcome diversion for pigeon fanciers during the winter months. However, it became so popular that surplus money was being accumulated so the Association decided to donate the proceeds to charity. One of the original steward’s Granddaughter had #SpinaBifida, it was therefore decided to donate the money to Shine and so the relationship began! Since 1973 over £580,000 has been donated. We’re sure you’ll agree this is an incredible amount of money and we want to say a huge thank you to everyone involved! This photo shows David Trippett, Chairman of the Show organising committee presenting £2,000 from the proceeds of the 2023 show to Chris Greenhalgh (Support & Development Worker from Shine) accompanied by Shine member, Catherine Roden. There are many ways you can get involved and support Shine, find out more https://ow.ly/tvRL50QNqfPthoughts on this please, yes i know its for charity but with the situation that the rpra is in at the moment is this appropriate ...? theres a couple of points i`d like to make over what they said in the text . |

theres a couple of points i`d like to make over what they said in the text . Something of a record to be rather proud of David from my perspective here. In tough times as now though for your RPRA there & the like should still be able to always find something I suggest for some charity cause in need. End of the day if my pissy little club here can do it on a yearly type basis, surely not much to expect I suggest as much as certain folk may tend to grumble somewhat there perhaps, for your lot to continue doing much the same as such, maybe. |

| From memory I think the Blackpool show was always about fundraising for a number of charities. That was its aim and purpose. I remember minibuses being handed over along with some big cheques running into thousands to a number of charities year on year. Done a lot of good no doubt and maybe RPRA doesn't help themselves now they are in the red, difficult one with fanciers split between charity begins at home and helping those less fortunate. Not sure what help the show receives from Blackpool council, venue owners, with this being a charity event? I guess if you don't agree then you can always choose not to visit the show but nobody wins then. |
