- thanks malcolm, yes good point ill tell him to exercise first before training...i think he will be letting them go with the club training soon.
one piont i would like to ask malcolm is one we have discussed a while ago and that is training either side of the line of flight....by what you have said you practice this method, can you tell me why you think it is important to teach this and do you train 15 in all directions or either side of the line of flight... Hi David, Well David, I like to train them either side of the line because I think that YBs have no racing experience and will follow the pack, sometimes only realising how stupid they have been when they are lost! I do not train them with the idea of them breaking away from the pack, I train them to be able to find home if they overshoot or are taken with the drag. Hopefully, my regular training will see them okay on normal races but when the wind is strong they get carried of line. If you read my post of a few days ago I said I went to Barnsley and tossed them up in a real windy day and I mean windy, now you know the reason why!. Malcolm. |

Hi Ian. Melton Mowbray is 73 miles to me. Hi David, I wont train with others. I did some years ago, but I think I will stick to training for myself. Malcolm. Training by myself is exspensive on fuel, as my car Drinks petrol!

| malcolm, ive read that some fanciers teach ybs to break at a certain point from the pack and just train continually from there....what are your thoughts on this please. |

And what happens if they overshoot or get carried to either side with the drag. For me I want my YBs to know every inch of the country for 20 miles around if possible, then they will know where to break. If fanciers only teach them to break at one point what happens if they are 2-3-4 miles either side of that point? Malcolm. |

| yes malcolm i know what you are saying, when we raced we could tell if it was a good one if it came straight down the middle from skelton grange power station... if it came from the side or even behind the loft we new it was no good. |

| david all your doing is learning them how to home out of basket not benifitting at longer distance i think 30 mile should be quite enough, however this is only my opinion |

| yes ian, i will do the same next year....ill take them first myself and give them a few on their own until they get the hang of it...then let them get used to being let go with a lot of other birds as its no good them going to a race and them wondering whats going on being liberated with loads of other birds... |

| But if they are not flying around the loft well then i would take them from a greater distance, may be 40 to 50 miles to get them fit or put a bit of spark in them only a few times |
