| hi guys those that now me know that i have just started with racers, none of my family have pigeons so what i know aboat racing pigeons you can fit on a back of a stamp ,i learn what i know from books, internet, and chat forums. the dilema i have is, i have 4 pairs of stock birds to breed off this year all of which are distance birds, the club by me fly the south road/wolverhampton fed, do i raise some y/bs this year and race them or do i raise them , train them up to say 40 mile and race them next year as old birds, any feed back would be appreciated. |

| i think rene is right, definately race them but dont overdo it with them.........maybe send them up to 150 - 200 miles but dont hammer them, then you will have a base to build on for next year when you can build them a bit more, altho in my opinion even then i wouldnt hammer them but maybe send them to the shorter chanel races. just my opinion, but im a novice so others will be able to advise better..... |

| ive not raced young birds now for the last few years they just get trained up as far as i can the more you train them the better they get and you can train them in your own time with out rushing them getting them ready for the yb races then as yearlings they get trained up with the local pigeon club as trainers up to 70 plus miles then straight in to the NFC races it works for me but its not for the faint hearted . |

Chris just train them well and pick a few races mate and that will do them fine and let them mature I would say and this is me over the next few years try to get a team around you then you can race a lot better mate you need a team first mate |

| i think dons advice is good a set back in your first year will hit you hard and more often than not they will go on to make better birds for being nursed along

Yes your right in one way Ian but not in another no your wrong if Chris races hard and loses them all he is back to square one as soon as he has a team around him then he can race hard and afford to have loses |

Not saying he will lose them but it is best to prodict the worst then say everything will be fine and dandy when we all know in one toss everything can go up in smoke |

| when a member asks for the advise or opinions of others, its his choice of which advise he will take...........its up to him to choose which will benefit him and to incorperate what he deems of benefit to him into his own management. we all have different views and opinions, some work and some dont........ |

| yes, the best way birdy....the amount of help and advise ive been given on this site can get very confusing if you dont single out the info which can benefit you personnally, it can overwealm you and confuse you more than anything. what works for one man might not work for another. |

| i think the top men and the belgens are constantley thinking of better ways to motivate birds and improve stock not wonder where that little bottle is that dont excist motivation is the best weapon with pigeons |

| yes, there is no secret potion in a bottle.............its not enough to have good pigeons, the fancier has to be one step ahead of the competition and get the best out of the birds he has, if he doesnt he cant do what they might be capable of doing. |
