Mr Mick ( Ginger ) De Carteret section H palamos Winner and Tarbes 6th and 7th in the Guernsey South Road Racing Pigeon Club.
I drove down to ginger today to take some pictures of his palamos section winner and also his two Tarbes candidates.
And as usual was made more then welcome by Ginge and Rose. I first asked Ginger when he first started keeping pigeons and he saiad about 60 years ago now and he told me the first race he ever won was the year of the corination way back in 1953 ( well before my time )
Then i asked him a couple more Questions whilest his good lady Rose mate the coffee and teas. I asked what breeds was it that he kept and was told the it was more of the distance breeds he was interested in and that the breeds he had were Jan Aarden, Cannon, Jos Thone, brouxis and the main breed in his loft now is Muller Aardens. This was a muller Aarden that won him 1st Section 9th open BBC Palamos 2011and also his two birds that he timed in from Tarbe's these were all 2 year olds
I asked him what feed it was that he gave his birds and what training is given to the birds before competing in these big races and his reply was i get my feef in one big lot at the begining of each year and mix my own i just add peanuts and sunflower hearts to the mix.
As for the training its a few simple St.Malo's thats around 69 mile and a few Messac's thats about 120 mile.he also said that he only races natural and always have done, asked what he treats for and he said only treats for Cocci,Worms and canker. He is a beliver in the natural remidies for the birds like grit and minerals and the good old alderberry which he picks himself and makes up. he also breeds around 50 YB's each year with the odd ones beeing brought in. Thats it from me and i would like to thank Ginger for making me very welcome and a thank a you to Rose for the drinks
