hi Fred so if urs are all in the roof, how is the air circulated, or is this done by electric fans, to circulate and push stale or stagnant air through the roof vents Thanks Ken

No Ken, I have two tiled apex roofs with a small aperture in the gable end, and belgian cortrege tiles, that dont fit to clever the stale air just drift up thru the false ceiling and away in the loft space my young bird loft is a different matter altogether, it's something me and my dad sorted out on an old loft 20 years ago, and it worked great then, but even better now. Its a flat (pent) roof, with a front to back fall of about 18", I have a false ceiling with sliders in so I can shut it up completely. The false ceiling is perpendicular to the floor (great word, sorry I had a dictionary for lunch This is the clever bit, the front of the 18" fall is open to the elements, with louvres and wire behind, to stop vermin and sparrows, the back end of the fall (from roof to false ceiling is open as well) it creates a great wind tunnel effect, and there is no smell of pigeons in the loft at all. If I can I'll take some pics soon I hope I aint gone on to much regards fred

Hi Fred no you have not gone on too much, so what your saying is the tunnel effect you have created though the use of the vents acts as a motor pulling up and circulating the air, Fred i know this is going to sound daft but ill ask anyway, for this system to work at its opitmum they would have to be a slight breeze outside, but how would it circulate the air and very still days ie no breeze at all. Tell me to shut up if you want Fred Thanks Ken

Hi Ken Dont worry about asking me anything, I've got no secrets The false ceiling is the real roof, although the top roof is more solid, felted etc, the top roof seems to draw any air in, it might be where the loft is sited, although its got high hawthorn hedges at the back and sides, on the old loft me and my dad adapted the fall was from back to front, and it didn't seem to swallow the air as much, It is a great system though!!! regards fred

Hi Fred bear with me please the old grey matter is not as bright as it once was, Fred this 18 inch drop seems to be the key in tunneling the air, now i could be wrong 9/10 times i am lol but stale or stagnant air is more dence that clean air so the poor air would be at the foot of loft where the fresher air is being circulated around the top. Fred are the front of ur lofts open IE not closed in, example i have my main doors open but directley behind these i have doweled doors, i hope u know what im getting at, lol Thanks Ken

| No Ken
the front, sides and back are all closed in, I do have two sliding doors on the front of the loft and a small amount of air creeps in,but not much
you must remember the ceiling vents are open most of the time, and they go the full length of the shed, about 20', so when there's a lot of wind about, as there is now, it feels quite chilly in there, as if it was wide open at the front
