just been reading up on the national flying club site about people congratulating mark gilbert for flying well iv jus looked at the results and i dont for one minute thinks its good flying after seeing how many pigeons he sends 13th open from nantes sent 80pigeons 1stopen saintes 70pigeons 2nd open fougeres 80pigeons 2nd open tarbes 31pigeons this to me isnt good flying i would expect a good position sending this many pigeons i dont even have 80pigeons so how could somebody like me compete with that i think this is why there isnt as many new comers joining the sport because it is just impossible to compete i wouldnt even be able to afford sending all those pigeons haha nothing personal to the fella im jus making a point and would like to see what you guys think?

i can understand your point kieran , but mark gilbert is one if not the best in europe at this moment in time at racing he has sent all these birds and just pooled one and its his first bird you can,t beat that . most of his race team get sent to these races just to gain experence ready for the longer races he takes part in . i can asure you he doesn,t get them all back hes a very wealthy man is mark so he can afford to send this many plus these big team flyers keep the prices down for us small team flyers , but you just keep trying harder to beat these guys , the wind dictakes where the winners are so one day the wind might favour you so you have to strike while the irons hot thats means keep sending like i do . cheers kev

i couldnt see the pools on the results i was looking at but if he only pools one pigeon and gets it then yes thats ceratinly good flying but i do still think mob flyers are ruining the sport because normal working people like myself jus cant afford to keep up

i think an example of good flying is shackleton and son 1st open tarbes only sending 1 pigeon flying 740miles that is what pigeon racing is all about

yes kieran i agree about what your saying big team flyers have been around for years and always will be we can,t do any thing about them just keep trying like i do when the winds not in his favour then hes way down the result he flys in a good position in the SE and with the prevaling SW wind he got advantage every time its a SW wind , just concentrate on your own pigeons like i do and not worry about other people .

i was at a moot some weeks ago and met mark gilbert he is a nice chap someone asked him a question it went something like this i was beaton for a gold medle by a man who sent 15 more birds than me if the guy had sent the same amount as me would he have still beat me reply was that bird pooled answer yes all the way how many did he pool answer 2 then my reply is yes he would have beat you because his choice would still have been the pool bird

I can see the argument from all sides. Yes it does give them I think an unfair advantage at times, but you have to hand it to them, they always pool the right bird, or in some cases, they wait till the pooled bird comes and they could of won it with another. But again, ets has stopped this practice, or has it. Personally, I like to fly in clubs, with members like that, as these are always the strongest clubs. With good birdages. I also think it's a good motivation to race against strong fanciers like that. For the simple reason, it makes a win all the more sweeter.

i asked this same question a few weeks ago on the chat, and i too beleive that altho picking the pool pigeon out of 80 sent he did not pool just one bird..........and also sending this amount per race makes the % of success greater, i also saw the man who sent one pigeon and took 1st prize....and he probably will hardly get a mention, so on the whole i think i would probably agree with what you are saying kieran.

Way I see it is yes I hate mob flyers but. They keeping the cost of birdage down and always a good feeling to beat a mob flyer and ur forgetting no one races the same no one has the same birds Guy who wins in are club every week sends about 30 to 40 pigeons but he can tell u the first 2 that be home and witch one will win he's wins every week in are club and he's not even in a good postion I sent 8 one week and came 2nd and 8th and I was happy just coz I knocked him off the top 3 positions haha. Why moan fly ur own birds if he's winning change ur management or do somthink differnt to motavte ur birds and don't blame it on mob fly that's his choise and his way My rant over haha signing off my fone now be on pc soon haha

This is the reason in our area, why we have well attended specialist two bird clubs. This is sometimes the the leveller. Not always, but never the less everybody has the same chance.

| thing is , the top flyers in my club do have good pigeons, i cant take that away from them.......but they also send 40 ybs to a race while the rest send 10 or less, i only sent to 3 races and with only approx 8 - 9 pigeons i was in the cards each time. but if i hadnt dome that they would have had a clean sweep.......
mob flying does give an advantage for sure, but on the other hand the pigeons do need to be good birds.......... |
