Which Corn Is Better

Which corn is better for our birds.
Is it the washed stuff, that has been sprayed with mould inhibitors and the blast air dried , that has all the trace elements removed.
Or is the stuff that comes un polished, that has the remnants of all the seed husks, that is often referred to as dusty, unclean.
Just a thought.

for me i will always use versa laga the birds have never suffered from malnutrition they look well on it and its clean the way i like it ,i cant stand to see dusty corn it makes me very suspicious and i did buy a cheaper mix less polished and husky as you put it but found it had alot of half eaten corn peas and beans present in the mix,so it went in the bin to me you get what you pay for with corn i have tried a few different mixes like buctons,countrywide,garvo,bamfords but i always go back to versa laga as its always consistant but i have viewed the gem mixes and they look very good i have to say jmo

morning gary, for me its vanroebys corn and versa laga corn, i find them always clean and fresh.......never mouldy or dirty/smelly (like your socks gary...lol)

i did once but some natural corn and it was horrible, i know a lot like it and its supposed to be good corn, but ive never bought any since, i am using some cheap corn made by johnston and jeff which is very good and was only £8 a bag.

forgot to say, im using this cheap corn just for the winter until i pair up and then they will be on a breeding mix.....

its a good debate but for me it is versa laga ive no doubt we pay more for it but in the long run its clean weather its to clean i dont know

It's all a matter of personal preference.
I mix my own and buy it in straights this way I can mix it according to the time of year. Adding extra proteins and carbs when needed. This does work out a lot cheaper and I get very little waste.
Breeding time is the most wasteful time of year, as they always go for the more higher protein grains, for this purpose I always add peanuts that crush roughly in the blender.
I don't like ready prepared stuff, as it is overpriced and you have no say in what you can and cannot feed.

ive used versal laga corn in the past yes its good corn but over priced for me ,
its only english corn what been sent over to belgium and cleaned up and they rip us off
with the price . im at the moment using four season corn mixed with farm beans and farm barley with linseed added and the birds feel and look well and there feathering is top class . my corn will change once the breeding and racing season starts .

thats true its shipped out and shipped back trouble here is not many places to get corn so its a bulk buy when we go as its around 70 mile trip to corn merchants although a friends taking me to a local farm that hes found alot nearer so ill wait and see whats on offer the clecver trick i did notice since starting again is the bags now contain 20k instead of 25 somewhere i did read this is due to laws on lifting weight as i know thats why they made cement bags small but they havent made the price lower

It's all kidology, most grains come from the same place, they are purchased in bulk. Some are put on large vibrating tables and the crap falls through, the smaller seeds are put into a huge hopper and then fall through a vacuum hopper called a winnower this sucks off all the sheaths and husks and it falls through cleaned of all the dust. Then it goes into a huge tumbler where it's sprayed with a mould inhibitor solution, then it is blast dried with compressed air.
Usually all the different brands are made by the same companies, the grains are blended to their different recipes and then just put into different branded bags.
No importing and exporting involved.
There you have it.

i am looking at feeding (when i am working full time again lol) versa laga ic plus as i have been to a versa laga meeting in darlo and i thought it was impressive what they do . there products are expensive as a whole but there are the exceptions . ic plus had extra vegatable goodies in it so very good for thr breeders and young . its got the lot in it. give them the best start i think. i like garys idea of mixing your own but i have no space for storing all the different grains seeds etc. at the moment i am feeding a mix of resting mix and all round as i think it just spreads it that bit further . they seem a lot more hungry even when not going out at all when just on the resting mix . so mixing it gives them just that bit more protien . and they seem ok .

Buy it in half weights and mix it in a plastic dustbin and just get some smaller tubs for the heavier grains. The corn mill where I go I can buy it in all different weights.

i think i would try my own mix but no good supliers around these parts would have to travel miles for a trustworthy source therfore losing any gain to petrol
