looking very nice gary, well done............you are a credit to pigeon racing. just reading there are over 40,000 breeding pairs in uk, thats a lot of sparrow hawks............is not the purpose they are protected because they are in danger of becoming extinct ? 80,000 s/hawks doesnt suggest they are in decline to me...

Cheers David. Plus half that amount again, with unpaired single and juvenile birds. Plus when you think about it, each of these pairs will have four or five young every year if successful. Each one of those sparrow will eat approximately 119 pigeons or 600 blackbird sized birds per year. This adds up to total devastation.

the thing is gary, protect any animal or bird if it is in decline.......but these are thriving and breeding out of control now, at the very least the rspb need to control the numbers and have a cull now.

Natural England, need to seriously look at this problem. Lets face it, if the normal public like ourselves can see the problems, just think what educated people could find, it aint rocket science. A licensed route for limited control where it is proved that a problem has arisen should be more forthcoming. Licensing would provide an important, legally sanctioned safety valve to relieve pressure where wildlife have grown so large as to create problems but it only works if licences are readily granted as needed

Cheers guys and this is the direction we should be heading. But before we can do that, we do need to get the support of the fanciers and for the life of me I cannot understand why this proving so difficult.
