| Dan its a sad thing, if anybody finds a fancier doing that to another they should get him banned, Ive had people ring up and ask what it is etc then when you tell them hang up |

| I think fanciers like this are what we up in these parts call strag catchers. If ever you do suspect a call you are getting is from one of these, play them at their own game. Tell em it was a pigeon that that a poor fancier at the local club bred you. Say it's never been any good and they are welcome to it, but you cannot transfer it to them as you never transferred it from the original owner, tell em also it's been in more lofts than Dave Allen. But they are welcome to it. I bet you a pound to a penny it returns to your loft shortly after. This is truly a sad fact of pigeon racing and it does happen quite frequently. |

| No probs Dan. These sort of fanciers are the scourge of the fancy, they don't want to spend money like the rest of us, they want to capture other peoples birds. I have over the years had many strays in, many just go on the merry way after a feed. because for whatever reason, they have dropped into someone elses loft, this does not give them a right to ask to keep your bird. If they were a true fancier, they would have reported and gave it back to you. Not all fanciers are like that mate, but you have to use tactics when dealing with these unscrupulous theives. A bit of reverse psychology works nearly every time. |

| I agree mate 100%, the amount that have said to me do the honours mate is unreal. I believe that it should be a rule that is enforceable by a ban or a fine. There's nothing worse than chucking a bird out that doesn't belong to, that won't leave and the owner won't send for it. I think these forums are a good way to deal with this problem as many will help to repatriate the owner with his lost bird and this is down to the good fanciers that come on these sites |

| your right gary, if an owner sends the bird racing, he must be held responsible for retrieving it if/when lost.......he cant expext someone else to take on the responsibility for his bird.
this is one of the reasons i rarely allow a stray into my loft and report it, sometimes they are more trouble than its worth, having to keep it seperated and wait while the owner is found or while he decides if he is going to collect it..... |

| i lost a bird at the 1st YB race last year, he came back just before the 1st race, he had obviously been feeding YBs and had a coloured clip ring on his leg, which wasnt there when i sent him |

| Yes this isnt a shocking story to long serving fanciers it does go on, but remember most pigeon men are not like this. 2 years ago I lost a blue cock racing, it had been a good bird and won a first and section prizes, so when it was reported serveral weeks later I wanted it back, the fancier wanted to keep t and sais so, I said I would send a courier and he reluctantly agreed. To cut a long story short the courier said he wouldnt answer the door, he eventually said he didnt want to give it back as it had been flying out and was no good to me. A friend of mine was working close to him and after telling him the story he knocked on his door when passing there and said he wanted my pigeon, hes a big chap and with a blunt personality and the fancier gave him the bird, obviously shocked by him turning up demanding the bird...thats my story and that fancier is a disgrace but it happens. |
