I have helped a few fanciers in the past Steve, some have told me it's their birds that are not up to the job. I have disproved this time and time again, it's not the birds mate. I spent years handling and basketting birds. I have handled birds that have been filled up with heavy corn for only a 100 mile race and they wonder why they come nowhere and do you know what they say to me when i comment. 'It might be a holdover' I used to laugh and say lets hope it's for three days Good health, plenty of exercise and careful feeding, plus a good motivation tactic. get these right and you surprise yourself.
I take my youngsters for two long tosses further than the first racepoint in some cases before the first race. this is why i still go help with the basketing at the club gary, even though im not racing..........its good to handle the pigeons that members are sending as you get to feel what they are like, and how they are being sent, ie full of corn etc.....you can also handle the tops prize winners birds and compare how they handlt to those who never win anything. its an eye opener........ |

| That's the one David, you get a feel for a pigeon, that only comes with experience. In my opinion a quality bird always feels tight in the body, more so with hens, their feathering is always soft almost powdery. Saying that I handled some National winners, cocks and they have felt uncomfortable in the hand. The feeding though is a major factor from top fanciers, that I have found, they never go rammed with corn. |

| A good offer there Steve, from Ste. Like he said he has travelled far and wide for these birds, regardless of cost mate. Yep Ste is ruthless, when we were racing together, the odd time I would say I'm not too happy with a certain bird, later on I would go to the loft looking for the said bird, it had gone I'd ask ste what had happened to the bird, he said you wasn't happy with it so it's gone. After that I kept many thoughts to myself. When we got yb sickness he was the same, luckily I managed to get him to wait three days, I'm glad we did, some of them won |
