| Nicknamed 'Steve'
'Steve' stepped into my kitchen about an hour ago, he is currently sat resting on the door mat and it looks like he has damage just above the left leg (displaced feathers and a tiny bit of blood). He's had a drink of water but doesn't appear to want to eat.
I'm in Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Anybody know who Steve belongs to or who I can call for help?
Thanks
Simon

| Hi Simon, well done on trying to find the birds owners but you need to give the full ring number, ie the year it was bred as z ring birds are bred every year, but if you click the link below theres a number you can call to report an NEHU lost pigeon, thanks http://www.nehu.co.uk/lost.html |

| Thanks Paul
The bird is dated 2011. I tried to call NEHU last night but the weren't open out of hours.
He stayed in the kitchen last night and doesn't look like he wants to go anywhere so I'll call them today & see if anyone will come and rescue him. |

| if you open the wing their may be a telephone no stamped on the flights or check the leg for another ring which may also have a contact no of the owner atb |

| He wouldn't really let me open the wing and I didn't want to stress him any more. I've contacted the NEHU this morning & the said to keep him in a box & they will send someone to collect him this afternoon. I really hope he gets to live but what do you do with a lame pigeon? Thanks for all your advice. Simon |

| Thanks guys,
The NEHU gave me the number of the owner who I have contacted, he sounded pretty reluctant to collect but said he would come down this afternoon.. as yet he hasn't turned up! I've tried calling again but he's not picking up..
Looks like 'Steve' will be spending another night in his new box home. He does seem a lot more alert and has been eating a bit of dry rice but I don't want to give him too much. I put him outside earlier to see if he wanted to carry on his way but it started raining heavily.
If they owner can't be bothered to get him what should I do? |

| hi simon, if he doesnt call to collect the bird and you cannot contact him, you should report it back to the NEHU as it is his obligation to recover lost pigeons which are his...........tell them you are a none fancier and need it collecting either by the owner or somone appointed by them to recover it as soon as possible. |

| Good advice chaps. I figured with all the good info I've found on the net there are a lot of dedicated people to this activity.. And I have watched the Mike Tyson documentary Only problem is according to the NEHU recorded message on 0191 262 5440 they are not open on weekends At this point in time he looks like he really wants out, seems like he's not a complete cripple but I guess letting him out at night wouldn't be a good idea, so I think I'll let him outside tomorrow to see what he does. |

| What do you recommend I feed him? I can pop to the local Tesco and see what they have to offer, I've already given him a couple of palmfuls of rice but don't want to fill him full of rice so he can't fly?

| pearl barley and popcorn maize would be ok better than nothing a percentage of rice is ok as it will hold water for the bird while in flight a bird wont eat much more than an ounce in one meal m8 anyway |

| Well I'm happy to say Steve is now on his way again! This morning he was pretty active in his box which was quite deep as he kept jumping out of his initial one.. I could see he wanted out ASAP so I gave him a bit more rice which he devoured & some fresh water (didn't have chance to pop to the shop) I put the box outside which made him more excited so I lifted him out & sat him on the patio. Initially he had a bit of a sunbathing session, preened his feathers & stretched his wings then flew up & perched on the apex of the garage roof.. after 30 mins or so pacing up & down the garage roof he shot off heading north! Hope he makes it home.. otherwise I'll see him later on In other news, a friend of the owner called a little while ago & said he could come collect but not until tomorrow morning. I said its too late and Steve will make his own way wherever that may be! |
