i like to get the ybs walking out as soon as poss after weanig, even if they only out for a few minutes.......i do this every day and as they get bigger they get a bit more adventurous and go dow onto the grass or up to the loft roof, but i never force them up.......im not bothered how long it takes for them to fly as they will do it when they are ready the there is less chance of losses.......

If you want them to feel there wings, when they are at that age they should be flying when it is time for the feed and they are hungary place them in a basket with a few old ones, take them to the back door of the house shake the tin then open the basket they will follow the old ones, thats one way of getting them on the wing, even if it for a short time

i was against the darkness only because i was told that they are no good the following year, but what a load of rubbish ,i tried it the first time with only 8 birds and one of them had 3 wins as a yearling including topping the section from 6000 birds.so now this is my second year on it with all my yb,s.i,ll not be going back to natural now also because i had 2 wins last year on it as well
