| Hi all, how can you tell if a y/b is going to be a good one. or is it just trial and error. |

| i think the only way is to feed/manage ybs right, train them right and send them to a race and see how they do......ok theres a lot can go wrong during a race ie bops, wires etc, but these are some of things we have to put up with these days if we want to race pigeons. |

| good question its fact that there isnt many top birds bred each year if it was so easy we would all have a loft full young birds are unpredictable one week at bottom next week they win as stew says if there fit and healthy then you have a good chance as some have said on here a lot of birds are followers some get lost due to hawks dont make um bad birds but in genral if a y/b cant get a top 10 place to your loft over say 8 races then its highly unlikely it will ever get a top 5 place in your club
i know people will say y/b racing is only education but how many do you winter that have done nothing only to find come the yearling stage they repeat the same performance poor ones ok some will make it but ide say 98% wont well bred birds from good stock should reproduce good birds crap stock will breed crap the numbers are stacked against you even with the best stock not all breed the good but your chances are better
has anyone on here got a super pair of breeders thats breeding winner after winner year in year out i doubt it there like gold dust |

| spot on graham as you say m8 cudnt agree more with ur comment all I can is RN ive you obtain rite stock fom a gd fancier and they must be onest with you aswell so you are goin to breed gd yb from them ur on ur way but ill be onest gd pigeons don't come cheap jmo. ye you will get the odd gd 1 given you but as ive said its not about the bird its wat you do with it fact ? plus then you gt downside ybs wires bop a lot ov things to take into account ive lost some stunners off the loft this yr and believe me they wud ov graced any loft .but were they any better than the 1ns ive gt left ill never know but its a lot down to management m8 if that's not rite ur pissin in the wind lol |

| y/b racing can be fun but its no guide to the future its education learning them the ropes theres only 2 types of bird the type that breed them and the ones that score the rest just eat corn and crap and we all got plenty of that kind i dont agree you got to pay big money for birds to get good ins the best ones are gifts off friends as they only give yer off their best the biggest mistakes made are feeding and ventalation get them right and your on your way sean |
