O-BOY In my 31 years of racing Pigeons- The --color--number of BARs--number of toes --ETC had no affect on/about their Racing ability. The bird could either Race or not race. It was the Brain-Genes-Health that made the difference. One of the bEST birds I ever had was a Bro/sis [nest mates] mating. I kept the [ COCK ] bird 21 years.

Im thinking the same as TEX, for me it makes no difference and why should it? its simply a mutation of the colour and hasn't anything to do with the pigeon. But I really like to see it and a lot of my V.D.B janssens have it, if they have it as squeakers they usualy moult as a pencil. I did read that the M/D evans partnership prefer blues with thick bars and believe they are better breeders, and I must say I don't like blues with very thin bars, I do like the thicker ones.

Family trait, like the Driebander (3 banded) of Hofkens. 6 or 7 generations on I still got ybs this year with a nearly full third bar. Like Ruud. these moulted into pencils and always hens apart from one light cheq with a slight 3rd bar ended up a cock. Thats a hen in my avatar, although not a full third bar you can see the family trait.

I agree with martyn and colin, its a family trait, and some are good, and some are not. ...just like any other pigeons, some good, some not good.

I am very interested in these willy van berendonk pigeons lads, Mainly because he bought a lot of the best pigeons at 2 of karel meulemans pigeon sales back in the day. He had some fantastic pigeons have you got any more info on them please, I was saying in this post that I had 3rd bar pigeons which were from my V.D.B meulemans seem others have the same experience with this family trait.

some pigeons are long cast so surely that would portray a longish tail ...be good to get some feedback from other members here especialy the long distance boys as to whether they have had success with long tailed pigeons

I have never heared of any one talk about long or short tails before, so I cant comment on them really. However I like a tail covered with feathers so far down that only a thumbs thickness of tail is showing and it looks like 1 tail feather as they are all covered. The only thing I do believe is true is that pigeons with strong backs will race better than weak backs or tails which cock up instead of down, and the only reason for this has nothing to do with flying ability just the fact that weak backed pigeons will be lost to the falcon they cant change direction as smooth or quickly as a strong backed pigeon and are caught more easily.
