also the only way totreat salmonella is with baytril and that does the same thing doesnt it.kills all bacteria in the gut.the only difference is baytril is an antibiotic and bleach is chlorinated water.97p for 2 litres of bleach with no sell by date.baytril £19 for 50ml and must be thrown out after one month.surely stopping a disease in the loft should be the main priority rather than treating sick birds.maybe some of you will just put sick birds in the bin but even so,the healthy ones need protection as well.

no i dont, in leeds we have a water treatment plant which purifies our drinking water......its called knowstrop sewage works. in the link its telling you how to sanities water if the drainage system has failed in an emergancy and doesnt say anywhere that giving pigeons bleach in their drinking water is ok for them........ unless ive missed it, maybe you might be able to highlite it where it says it...............

if you honestly think that two drops of bleachin a drinker will harm your birds then i think your not as bright as i thought you were couldnt possibly harm them we give them a lot worse than this when treating them throughout race season

ian, i never claimed to you or anyone else i was bright in any way, nor do i need anyones aproval regarding how bright or not i am..........only an idiot would give bleach to pigeons to drink, simple as that and whoever doesnt agree they are entitled to their opinion. and just while you have got a bit of spare time, have a quick look at this............ http://www.brighthub.com/science/medical/articles/55572.aspx |

going back to the loft white, I think even though the lime might be alkaline its the drying properties of it that kils the bacteria, take away that and it dies.

i knew this subject would cause a bit of aggro.if the people who disagree with using bleach in the water in an outbreak of sickness then try this.split the birds into 2 sections.put half a teaspoonfull of bleach in the drinkers for a few days and only water in the other.think you will find more birds sick with disease than bleach.maybe if bleach was used on a regular basis then it would interupt the birds immune systembut not in times of disease.ive onlu used it twice in one year for 3 or 4 days and it stops spreading disease.even squeekers survived.
