Avian flu.

Quarantine for some clubs. No racing for them for a while. Hope it does not affect this area.

Just curious Hal who & how do they decide etc who flys & who doesn't type of thing in your area there.

"  Good morning everyone. I am sure you have all been following the news on the Avian Influenza outbreaks. The first attachment is the latest release from CFIA and the second one is a zone map of the outbreaks and buffer zones, there is also a 3rd one in Bright. This is not good news for our hobby and all we can really do at this time is take one day at a time and follow the updates from CFIA. This quarantine in zone one is already preventing 4 of our SWOA members from attending the auction tomorrow. When you are in the 10 kilometer radius know as the buffer zone, your birds are on total lock down. This means no movement of birds on or off the property and no loft flying.
    You will notice CFIA strong recommendations, and SWOA has decided to cancel our trailer auction scheduled for tomorrow. We have to do what is best for the hobby in the long run. Please make sure all your members are notified of this cancelation. I will keep you informed of new updates as they arrive. I understand that if no more outbreaks in zone one a date will be set to lift the quarantine.

I am out of the quarantine zone by 90 miles to the West. May give them a 50 mile toss a.m.

All appears a bit of a mess type situation      to me Hal. Will watch with interest, to see how it all plays out there down the track.

Going on what iv'e ben told there seems to be an outbreak of PMV 200 miles north of Sydney at this time ; Thats the furthest north its been so far ;

We race East to West. Right over the quarantine area Start May 8th if all goes well. Over a 100,000 turkeys and chickens killed so far. Just have to wait and see.

Our PMV, is a bit like our cane toads I suspect K always on the move here & nobody should feel safe etc because if you do  something may just bite you on the b*m sadly.

Trained today. They came excellent. Young birds out also. Weather is good finally!

They should do good. SWOA has 10 clubs, from short flier to long is 160 miles. About 60 miles wide. Stiff competition to win the Fed. Have done it occasionally. Twice only day bird.

160 X 60 miles that's about the same ??? as my mate here just to the north of me on the other side of the river etc.

Thats a Very Big Boundary ours here is 5k wide 30 k long 9o members 2;500 plus birds in Fed 8 clubs ;you can't blink here ;we had 2 together won Fed our second bird did 1/2 a Flip ;if it could of been counted would of been 20th Fed ;most races Decimal points seperate us ;I think wind would play a major factor in that size Fed ? cheers

I suspect your assumption K could be correct etc re the wind . Reminds me some what, of what some here have to put up with at times Now !!!. Little fat bloke rang today for a chat again & told me the heroes ??? from down the bottom are already up at Avenel here
(70/80 miles) & it's still 6 weeks to the first race & we both had a good & wished them all well ??? Sort of .

30 miles north of the GPO 30 miles east & 50 miles south of the GPO taking in all the Mornington pennisula area etc. Wonthaggi hasn't had a club for years down there, sadly & I can remember when the had 20 odd members in the good old days     K. Now !!! a little story about the Wonthaggi flyers. Years ago, when I flew against them on the west track here I was told they would clock before me being up the the top end as such & I said rubbish being a flyer of some repute back then,  but when the wind blew strong from the north & all the birds went around the bottom of bay here they did & I had only to give them about 60 miles & one bloke there Al Wosney was 100 plus miles as he lived at Foster near Wilsons Promontory where your birds track when they come up from Tassie K . Fortunately I don't have to worry about the Wonthaggi boys now as they have been replaced by the Rosebud mob (50miles south) & I'm still going to be Rat sh*te again as we all are back on the west track again this year.

Pleased you mentioned RoseBud ; i had an Old Mate There Charlie Webb ; long gone know but he held that Club together for years ;

All races postponed for two weeks. Oh well. Should have started May 8th.

True "Charlie Webb" he was like a shag on a rock     down there back in the late fifties etc when I first visited him, with one of his mates in the game. it was a long trip up to Frankston for Charlie back then (No freeway) to basket his team of chumps there before the Rosebud club was formed. Charlie had a bit to do with a bloke called Col Bower "hard man" Cow farmer & trotter's, raced the Gurneys & Bastians back then, before he got his grizzle family. Col taught me, the differance between mothers milk & what comes out of a cow when fresh & warm as a young lad & it's some thing I've never forgotten even today.
