| Wow John that's a bad one mate, that's the sort of injury we see a lot here in PEMBS, hope this is a one off for you, Very nice bit of stitching there should heal a treat, smother the wound with honey for a few days and it wont get infected. We had a horse last year run into wire and cut its chest and legs to shreds and got very infected, instead of antibiotics the vet told us to smother the wound daily in good quality honey, the wounds healed up amazing and saved us a fortune on jabs, the vets are resorting to this type o treatment now because like in humans the antibiotics for animals are becoming less affective.

| Sorry for your losses. We have not even started racing here. Avian flu. Have not lost too many here to raptors. Not sure why. Maybe the birds can see them coming? Never heard of covering wounds with honey. Good idea! Learn every day! |

| Here is a quote from a vet. "For fanciers I'd suggest a few things: As much as possible, avoid the use of antibiotics, and other treatments in pigeons. Instead try to develop strong natural resistance whenever possible. When treatment is actually proved to be needed, use the full recommended dose for the full recommended time. Avoid the so-called preventive treatments that too many fanciers use or recommend just before the breeding and racing seasons. Why preventively treat a condition that may not even exist in your birds? This approach just knocks out the billions of protective bacteria in the digestive system. Off my soapbox now. Good wishes to all." |

| yes martyn. it was bad enough when the bird came back this morning at 7 all cut up. but then going into the loft in the morning and seeing our other bird lying dead in his box. was bad . last week he was 3rd cub and 9th fed. and a good pigeon. he came home yesterday and his hen was waiting for him. he look alright . in the nest pan with her cooing up. but what I did not see was the hawk spick in his chest. he must have bleed internally . |
