What are members thoughts on latebreds. |

| I don't mind distance late breds but ya need to take it steady with them ...had some lates last year that never raced as ybs they went to carentan this year the first channel race for me I sent 5 got 4 and 1 came 6 weeks later lol so next year I can push them on ....I don't think many pigeons are super pigeons latebred or not ...so for me late breds are ok if you treat them with respect and a bit of thought |

| would rather breed early Nov/Dec and put old rings on them I think it has to do with the moult stronger ybs come better after the moult than just before it that is what I have found |

| Yeah most of my old bird team were late breds Mark, and that's exactly happened to all mine, they will be ok for next season though now that they've caught up with the moult.
Rainbow that's a good idea with breeding some late youngens, and putting old rings on. Have you had any success in the old bird racing doing that. |

| i suppose its what we call late breads some may say june & july are late if you pair up in early december but august september are what i would call late breads these are the ones i wouldn't bother with for racing you loose them in the winter and if they are not trained on nice days their no good for racing next year |

| just good pigeons late bred or not ...just that most people breed ybs early so theirs a higher % of winners coming from earlier bred birds but I do agree after july late breds are only good for stock really as mark says they do need some training as ybs mine were weaned in june so had time to train them up to 25 miles ...like I said treat um with respect and patience they will be ok as old birds ..I got 5/9 from last years late breds they had 6 races and 1 across the channel this year the 4 I lost were all in the same race would the losses be any worse with earlier bred ybs as yearlings ...its a alternative for anyone who did not want to race ybs |

| I know a few fanciers who always breed a few l/breds off their best give them a few chucks on good days then put them by till y/lings then train them on very good days and get them a come back race on a good day then as 2 y/olds and race them right out with good results sean |

| that's ok with late breds if you have the room to wait that long but like most of us i suspect we don't with the pace of racing today you need birds that earn their perch right away |

| still don't see the point in keeping late breds for racing keep them for two years then loose them when you could put a young cock or hen in its place and by the time the late bred has matured enough to race properly you could have a good two year old with prizes |
