Pigeons and the heat Empty
PostSubject: Pigeons and the heat   Pigeons and the heat EmptyThu Jul 21, 2016 5:31 am

I was wondering how your birds are coping with the hot spell we are having at the moment.

I have sliding doors on my young bird loft, which are normally fully open unless it is raining in, or it is very cold. I have toyed with the idea of leaving them open at night but I am worried about anything getting in.

My stock loft has an aviary attached to the back of it and I have been putting a bath in there every day. It also has a false inner door which has a strong wood frame and weld-mesh covering. That helps to keep air circulating though the loft, but I am not sure about the night time, when the outer door is locked up.

Do members have any experiences of hot weather and pigeons, and any advice.

For what I see Phil Smile Smile there, no need to change your normal ways etc when you only have the odd hot day etc. Maybe open up your loft as best you can to get the air flowing through it as such & I also wouldn't be rushing out to buy electrolytes or other magic potions to help them cope with the hot weather, especially if in a non racing period as you are I believe. cheers

sounds like you got the ventilation covered phil, just keep your main doors open as much as possible during the day like you are doing.......and always make sure the water is always topped up.

They were all OK in the heat - except their appetite went off a bit. It was just me Over-Reacting like a clucking mother hen.

My latest babies are playing up a bit right now - I think they need the "No feed" treatment until they can behave themselves.

Thanks
Phil

I think it normal sometimes for them to not eat as much during the heat, I noticed mine wernt too hungry Tuesday when it was boiling hot.....I shouldn't imagine its anything to worry over.
