| Salmonella is NOT passed to pigeons from rodents! It is passed from pigeon to pigeon only! |

| Rodents are disease carriers no doubt about it. However, not a carrier for Salmonella, apparently. When we had vets coming every week (1000 plus sows here then) I gave him a pigeon that had dropped dead for no apparent reason. He pm,d it and said Salmonella. His advice? Use a Sulpha drug or vaccinate or leave alone. He said no matter what, the birds will come in to contact with infected pigeons, carriers. If left alone they will have some immunity. Probably will lose one or two or three a year. I left well enough alone. Do have two a year drop dead most years, but varies. Sometimes none.I have carriers here but strong immunity. So leave as is. Anyway, below url explains better. http://www.melbournebirdvet.com/salmonella.aspx |
