| I am giving Versele Laga Junior O, no maize with about 20% Gerry Plus at the moment.
I feed 35 grams per bird/per day - 40% of that in the morning and 60% at night.
What do you guys think. I don't think it is too much, because they are always hungry - but it might be the wrong balance of foods.
The young birds are not thin or too fat, and I just about have them under control as far getting them in for their food is concerned. I want them to grow well without being held back, but I do want them to come in when I ask them to.
It's all a question of balance I guess.

| initially when weaning I give plenty of food, then as they get stronger on the wing and ready to go out I cut the food down so as to have more control over them.......once they are exercising round the loft I feed one oz per bird per day, bringing it back up to around one and a quarter oz when training/racing. |

| Would not know. Never measured it that low. Full coffee can or less depends on the birds and their antics.. |

That is 35 grams per bird per day - the same as I feed phil114. Phil |

| I have a small element of barley in mymix ,its a great regulator of feed as its the first grain they leave ...when ybs are on the dark remember they are moulting and need protein but not too much ,we feed 28 grams per bird 1 feed that's it until total control of ybs trapping then I introduce a morning treat after exercise |

| To save confusion (mainly my confusion) - if you are talking to me - Phil from Blue Sky Loft, can we use Phil and if you are talking to or about the other Phil - Can we use Phil114 please.
I also think 50% wheat is too much - Phil114

| Well, wonder of wonders - I think my young birds must have read Phil114's posting about his birds flying for an hour or more - because, this morning my y/b's flew for 58 minutes, non-stop. Normally they will fly for 30 - 40 mins then come down, but this morning they just kept going, flying this way then that. I think they must be thinking about 'ranging'.
I hope they get a few ranging times in before they start moulting. Already, there are a few feathers on the loft floor, morning and afternoon, and they are not down feathers.
But I think our racing birds are getting a bit fitter, they have started shedding down feathers in the past week or so. I have always taken the dropping of 'down' feathers as a sign of birds getting fiter, or at least healthy.
Phil
