| One would have thought that with the area concerned and it is not too much of an effort to get the pigeons to the loft that there would be far more fanciers interested.
It is also a little disappointing to see the disparity in entries.
We all know a good one in condition will beat a hundred also rans all other things being equal, but one loft races involve so many adverse possibilities that having twice, three and four or more entries than others increases the odds of those sending more overcoming any problems.
But I hope yours will be there at the end to take their chances, and will enjoy watching their progress.
Regards. |

| I think most of us would have preferred the rpra one loft again, but we didn't have any choice this year.......the updates for the mnfc one loft are very poor compared to the rpra one loft, so lets hope we are more informed once the season starts.
I think there are approx. half the entries in the mnfc compared to last years rpra, also we have 4 birds entered, compared to 2 last season, so more chance maybe ...??? |

| Ah great news. If I am reading last years results right most of the birds clocked in the last race were hens which is interesting. |

| Glad you would not offer a penny Knackered, I was thinking more in terms of pounds sterling.
Joking apart, I have never been interested in the money side of the sport I have always got my monies worth in enjoyment.
But if you pay and there is money involved you are entitled to any winnings.
Regards. |

| I think with the price of keeping pigeons today, its becoming a rich mans "hobby" , nothing is cheap with a picture of a pigeon on it.......it soon mounts up at the corn shop if you try stock up for a while, that's why its good if you can source cheaper options. |

| Yes. Rich persons hobby. However if one can afford them and win with them, a little advertising can defray expenses. The more one wins the more one can sell birds. Look at Europe. Many are sold to Asia. You have the birds they have the money. Pure sport? Has not been since Gits and others. |

| I feel that it depends entirely on exactly what you are in the sport for.
If it is to enjoy breeding and racing for what that has to offer irrespective of it depending on any wins etc; then the sport need not be too costly for the average person.
It the average person is, in my opinion, of the opinion that he/she can compete with the rich and win at any cost brigade on a shoe string then they will in most cases be disappointed and well out of pocket.
I never spent much on lofts, home made, or pigeons, the latter I looked carefully at who was selling and what, the former being as important as the latter.
I got brothers and sisters of top pigeons for what was a pitance relative to today.
I had a wife and two children to look after and care for many years at the same time as the pigeons etc;
I only kept the number of pigeons relative to what I could afford to keep in the manner they deserved, which varied at times.
There were difficult times when I had to do a bit of scrap mettaling etc; to fund the pigeons but that was also an experience I would not have missed.
I had oportunities to sell pigeons but never did, I gave many away that both won themselves and also bred winners for many fanciers.
There is no one on earth now or previously that has enjoyed the company of our feathered friends more than I have and I would have done so irrespective of any wins etc;
Regards.
