yes darren, thoroughly enjoyed it this year......at times things seemed to be taking a strange course with training etc, but then again its been a strange year anyway ........very pleased with how our birds performed this year, it makes me wonder how things would have turned out with all 5 of ours in the final .

thanks darren and 93, you did us proud .......cheers

True Very Happy Very Happy was getting a wee bit worried there for a short while etc Don Smile Smile But all turned out ok in the end as such. Honest as honest can be for a pigeon is our 93 & if some one is smart Wink Wink they could pick up a real bargain maybe when they all go up for auction shortly. End of the day Smile Smile a nice way to end I suggest & O/S should be rather pleased I suspect & especially as 93 has carried on from last years race where he bred 2 in the first 100 type of thing from his little family of champs Very Happy Very Happy. cheers

After all the training etc ; think the returns disappointing.

Must be difficult dealing with so many pigeons I agree but I would bet that if they had complete open loft from day one and just a couple of training tosses the results would be far better in every respect.

Regards.

how many birds started, around 1,500 .......? if so around a 1,000 were lost after 4 hot spots Suspect

anyway, besides that, ive enjoyed this years one loft.......i dont race my self so this has given me something to participate in , its a hard job running a one loft with 1,500 birds, i cant handle over 25, so the manager and his team have done well in uncertain times, and i reckon it was £25 well spent ........ cheers cheers

Pigeons entered in the OL races are obviously those the entrants think are the best,

To lose two thirds before they reached a distance one could call any test at all to my mind is not understandable, their must be something amiss.

WE also have no idea yet how many will be lost in the final, and also the distance of the final is not a real test, with a wind up their posterior.

No one has enjoyed the experience more than I have, like David I no longer race pigeons myself, and oldstrain has done a good job for us once more.

We all have our opinions and they are mine.

what alot of entrants forget is constitution it must be bacteria heaven for the first few months with different arrivals from the 4 corners of the british isles eh ...then of course racing north is a bit different to then you have the tree cover for hawks when entrants are arriving in march/april she (sparrow hawk hen) and gossy are at there most ravenous just when they are getting on the wing ,it must be a nightmare to run but you have a job to do and think the loft manager tried his best and hopefully has learnt a few lessons this year ,i just think the tossing was not needed once racing commenced and to many short tosses 12 tosses max prior to racing ffs there starting at 70 mile but hey all said and done jeremy and his team did there best under difficult circumstance as we dont know maybe loft hands were locked down etc...and things got really difficult and hard to turn around ,yeah all said and done jremy and his team deserve a pint tonight and thankyou to them all pirat pirat

thing is with one lofters its always like a training toss and when they clash/hawk strike/go awry they lack experience of a small team alot of followers are formed so big losses will occur ,not sure what racing was on today ...more will turn in tomorrow and some will be good birds just gaining experience they should already have had ,to many blow homes is not good for them i dont think they had 1 headwind last 3 were tailenders 1 prior was a crosswind anyway done now and thats me whacked i have to be up early to take alfie over the park for rugby training ,brew and Sleep over and out pirat pirat atb lads

We tend to be generous etc Misty Wink Wink on such an occasion as we are in at this moment in time here with our race. For me thou Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes some real hard questions do really require to be answered on what actually transpired through out the year with the birds I suggest & especially Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad the 500 bounce bounce that never even made it to the first training toss from the paddock next door there at the start of tossing. Gloss/glitter & spin may be OK  Smile  Smile for a short while  bounce  bounce but in the end if problems aren't corrected what ever they are or may be, certain people could finish up on a slippery slide to no where & with egg on their face type of thing from my perspective.  cheers & take care.

Good thinking/thoughts etc O/S Smile Smile For myself Rolling EyesRolling Eyes never at any stage there bounce bounce did they have intent of looking for hard day type racing from my perspective. 30 odd tosses Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad & they knew all along they were going to pick blow home type races. Now Wink Wink some here may just question my thought process in some way & so I put this up as why I speak as I speak as such. So, come training day there, how many times did they go south for a toss when the wind was from the north as such to just condition the birds when they would have required extra effort to reach home in the end, maybe. Answer Very Happy Very Happy a big fat zero I would suggest come the end of the day Wink Wink & lets not forget  Smile  Smile its more than likely  bounce  bounce half of those birds still missing are down south some where I suspect & so a few tosses from there could just have helped them get home on the day, maybe  Wink  Wink. cheers

Hopefully it's on next year, for anyone like ourselves to have a chance at the end it's a success but there's a lot more disappointed fanciers each year who won't re-enter again. And it's not cheap. Tail wind yesterday and it was still a bad race with pigeons that had already had some experience. Maybe racing mid week so to miss Saturday clubs would have helped yesterday?
Considering all the entries would have been bred off proven breeders you'd think, then something was never right this year. You wouldn't lose this many birds if they were fit, healthy and happy at home.
Even trapping was a lottery, how can so many birds have so much training yet still fail to enter the loft at the home end? They didn't seem bothered or didn't want to enter for some reason which is strange with youngsters who once they know food is in trap like bullets from an early age.

Cant take anything away from Darren's protege though, great result and well deserved !!

a fast race in cloudy conditions is the worst as they have energy to keep going down south which they will work back from but if they crack on into wales of which they do racing into the west country with a north east wind then you wont see them again ...happens all the time on the north road racing into the west ....should have given 2 or 3 trainers from the severn ,near gloucester/cheltenham as oz says south east of the loft location and trainers in all winds to ok give them a few easy ones to start with but then give them experience ,birds will be scattered now and if wind is same they wont work back in it as they dont have the condition being used to blow homes ,its not rocket science is it lads ...i reckon lockdown bit hard at the lofts as it was mentioned the later arrivals never faired well at this years one loft and ours were late ...we had 3 that never saw a toss 1 was nest mate to 93 other 2 were nest mates who's siblings have won every year for me down the club as ybs ,this is why i was crying out for a test in the final as i know that they are really on it between 1200-1400 ypm velocities ...we experience alot of these race speeds coming out of the north here in the west country anyway enough waffle im off for a game of rugby with alfie bounce pirat pirat

Hope you have a good game of rugby oldstrain.

Keep trying to find out where we were in the Ace Pigeon bracket.

Cannot see being out of the first half dozen.

Just a great pity the final was not a strong head wind.

been thinking about these hot spot races and the final ........if the loft manager is always waiting / looking for fine weather to send them racing, it means the times they do go racing will mainly be good days, so therefor it will be a certain type of pigeon who wins it, not a pigeon who is bred for a hard day and a proper test ...... Suspect Suspect scratch scratch

is this a good way to do it, is it fair to get good weather winners who fly well when its easy ...?

Think the whole system needs a re-think.

The training in only blow homes is asking for trouble as is very short tosses.

There is very little incentive for the pigeons to fly back from adistance from which they can see their loft.

A lesson hard learned is never forgotten.
