Maybe so But loosing half, before the first hot spot race at 41.9 miles really puts them in a special class of their own I somehow suspect David sadly. What's next 60 miles, then 80 maybe & then 100 miles with a strong tail wind for the final one there . .

Tis strange to be loosing so many pigeons in any case.
If a fancier lost (and we know no one has all good pigeons) half his/her birds before reaching anything like a decent race distance they would think something seriously wrong.
To my way of thinking anything around 70/80 miles is no more than a training toss.
I would not like to attempt to motivate so many pigeons, however, they should all be capable of returning from such short distances.
Think a lot has to do with unhealthy pigeons, from so many different lofts.
Regards.

Nothing strange here about the loses etc Misty with these type of races on average, it's sadly just part now of their general DNA so to speak unfortunately. Talk the talk is fine I suggest but when the welfare issue of the pigeons come under consideration in the final dash for cash Cash wins out in the end no matter how many are lost to achieve the final outcome by my way of thinking. Now you know I've mentioned my local hot spot race here recently when comparing apples with apples. Like you know, 41.9 miles compared to 240 odd miles for the first race scenario. Point here I didn't mention was that in money terms here they lost over a 100,000 odd dollars in general entry fees with the birds that just didn't in the end make it home for whatever reason End of the day these type of races are in general a total disgrace I'm for the most part, always have been & they always will be sadly if thinking only in the general welfare & care of the pigeon term issue I suggest/suspect.

Tomorrow i will be attending my step fathers funeral who was such a character of a man and in my life for 40 years but he lived to 92 and had a succesful colourful life and family and friends will embrace that tomorrow. There will be no training tomorrow but will be loft flown and given baths. Tuesday weather permitting will be back training and then hopefully were mark on Wednesday for Hot Spot Two which will be from Wincanton at 65 miles , the long range forecast then is looking good with head winds. Wincanton appears I may just be right etc unfortunately. 40/60/80/100 miles type of thing Jeremy may be good bloke & has been doing his best there as such but maybe time now sadly to just throw the towel in the ring I suggest & retire to greener pastures .
