Yes, the best times were in Blackpool, there were auctions in many different venues and several in the main show and numerous stalls selling eveything bar kitchen sinks. There was always outside interests for a break. The idea for an annual show for all was instigated by the first club I was a member of, in Askern, Les Henshaw being the prime mover and was involved until he joined the loft in the sky, was founded at a meeting in Leeds. Regards. |

Same David had some nice weekends there but very little to do other than the pigeons and won a few cards. Also went to the Cleethorpes shows over 400 pigeons on show, won best opposite sex in the very last show there and 1st young hens along with other cards. Also won best in show in several other shows. Went to the Blackpool show long before the Harrogate one. Our club ran shows four classes every fortnight through the Winter months got judges from outside our area, great fun shows, heard judges called some real nice names, we laid on drinks and cakes in our club shows. Never heard of any local club shows for yeas. Regards. |

i used to enjoy entering but stopped a couple of years ago, it wasnt the same ..... Nothing the same now David, no one can be bothered to undertake the responsibilities involved Years ago in our area there was four thriving clubs well into double figure members. Today two clubs with single figure memberships of actual flying members. Not only that the type of fancier has changed and not for the betterment of the sport. Just very thankful I enjoyed the best of times in particular when a youngster 80 odd years ago. Regards. |
