| Hi Lads n Lasses, i was thinking today how nice it would be to have a loft full of birds that have earned their perch for life. So my question to you all is What do's a bird have to do, to earn his/her perch for life in your loft? For me the bird would have to do something like top UNC or be a phenominal breeder i look forward to your replies amanda |

| hi amanda, good question.....as ive not raced yet since restarting again ill have to just say what i think id do. to earn a perch for life i would be happy if it had topped the fed.....i know some wont agree but it would be enough for me at the moment. also if a bird had bred winners i would also keep it. im afraid i would be one of those who got too atached to the pigeons and wouldnt be able to part with any of them, when the time comes that ive got too many i dont know what i will do.... |

Well i think the answer if you have to many is to gift them to a novice or as i have found give them to some older members. We have some really senior members in our club, and well they just cant afford to buy new stock. Just a thought. And i like your answer that you would keep if it topped the fed. I hope you end up with a loft full David |

| Read an artical by Dave Allen and he said everytime he went to the loft he always looked to kill something and when he was able to leave the loft without killing he was happy |

Well i suppose its a way of doing things. At least this guy dos'nt or should'nt have a cull at the end of the season. I will admit there are times in way to soft for this sport. I still cant do the dreaded deed. Not that i want to try it |

| i could never kill a pigeon, dont know what im going to do when the time comes......altho oneway would be to give them away to a new starter or someone who wanted them, better than killing. |

| Yes you can give them away to a new young fancier who is starting up so they are able to see if they can look after pigeons first to see if they like the sport before they start racing
I have seen a lot of my freinds have pigeons and within 18 months they have got rid of they and they say to much hard work

| Amanda if you can not sort them out then before you know it you will have a load of pigeons which is going to make it hard work for you to look after
That is why some times you have to miss a year breeding young birds just to keep the numbers low so you do not have to do the dreded deed
I have know fanciers keep a very small amount of pigeons so they am never over stocked
So if you have a large amount of pigeons miss a few seasons breeding young birds |
