On the issue of breeding winners, i would like to get opinions about the importance of the hen in the breeding programme, as some fanciers claim it is the cock who breed the chicks.

hi niel, good question.....i seem to think its the hen that plays the main part in the breeding of the yb as its her who produces the egg. i think most fanciers tend to think the cock is the main one in racing too but hens can race equally well and in some cases better. just my opinion tho niel, im sure others will have their own thoughts on this and like you i would be interested to hear them.....good subject niel.

dont want to apear thick, but how would anyone know which was resposible for producing the winner? the only way would be to try with different partners and see what they produced?

Sometimes a certain hen, breed winners with every cock mated, and visa versa, but in most cases pairing winners depend either on the cock, or hen, it is only good to get opinions regarding the impotance of the hen. |

Both of them have to be perfectly built Deep keel , narrow vent bones , this is absolute vital for both of them. The cock need to be an exellent racer I think both is important , but think the hen is more imported. As you stated, it is her eggs.
