| I can remember in 1982 I bred 12 youngsters, it was the most birds I had owned then all at once. I think I ended up with 6 they went all the way to le'age in france 2 of them and all home by 4 pm that day 299 miles.
Down here in pembrokeshire some people breed 150, the average is 50 so things have really changed massive losses here this year 5 smash races in a row. I will be breeding at least 60 this year, but Im splitting them 3 ways and training them all different to try and get better returns. |

| I just thought I would mention, as far as I know nobody in 3 clubs here uses darkness, I have never used it and never will. |

| You can race the longer races if the young birdsare younger compared with the true early bred young birds |

| Hi ken , well thats a really good question. I can honestly say that the moult hardly affected my birds this year, a few members did comment at marking that my birds were down to the last couple of flights and they wouldnt have sent them in that condition..however i feel nature takes care of it and those birds came ok from the race. the body moult had set in later on and the heads were looking a bit ragged, but the weather is very warm and this surely doesnt hamper them. But I didnt send to the later come backs or the last 2 races, but by then my birds actually looked better and it wouldnt have been a problem. The earlies looked fine as they were 6 months old by racing, it was the later ones which were a bit poorer, but the even later ones hadnt even started moulting by the 2nd race, so it works itself out I think. |

Ken hi ken, why were you struggling to find a team to send to the last race ? i was of the understanding that dark ybs had moulted the body and stopped the wing moult by racing time ? just asking as im intending to race dark ybs next year but if they cant get to the last race or so im asking if its worth going onto the dark...... |

| Hi David i had already stopped the hens as i was short on a few, so that just left me the cocks, i got 12 of these to the last race, the others had started to body moult, but this only told me the birds were right internaley, they could have gone as they still had full wings, but with the weather being iffy, i left them at home which proved to be the right thing to do as it turned out to be a tough race. with out the darkness i wouldent have got any to the last race, thay all would have been stopped with about 3 races to go Ken |
