what would you get if?????

just wondering what you would get if you crossed a long distance bird with a short or middle distance bird ? do they mix well or is it best to keep types together? would donninos go with kirkpatricks or lefebrah dehens or vise a versa?? donnonios been jannsen,van loon based. what are your thoughts on this

hi davey, ive read that some fanciers breed their birds togeather no matter what distance they are supposed to be for, they cultivate their own family that can win from 50 miles to 500 miles.........ive also read that a lot of fanciers just pair winner to winner no matter what breed they are as its the winning gene they are building on.

hope this helps, maybe other more experienced members will give your their views on this.

by the way davey, janssens, lefebre dhaenens and van loons will all be short to middle distance birds, altho this is not set in stone..........also janssens can and do fly the channel.

hey up david mate , young birds are doing fantastic new where the drinker was and ate strait away so that was the most important thing , they havent gone downhill or anything . getting stronger on the wing as each day goes . not had them out yet , when would you say was enough time for this. they are mixing well with the others . the youngest little blue bar is a bossy little thing , deffinatly a cock as he the boss already ha ha takes them all on . plucky little things. . just thought i would ask incase anybody has done this breed mix before. dont want to breed birds then not know how far to send them realy. i ant to at least give them a chance if ya know what i mean. i guess ya dnt know till ya try them realy tho. thankyou again for the youngans david mate. will have some photos on hear shortly as just wanted to get a bit more done on the loft as the sun is out can you adem and eve it!!!!!!!!!!!! ha ha . hope people respond to this thread. would like to see wat different people think .

Although most fanciers would tell you to keep your breeding plans like for likeSprint/sprint,distance/distance ect,truth is, you can never tell mate,and i think the answer can be...suck it and see ,but saying that,good distance boys often try putting middle distance stuff into their distance team to try to add bit of speed,quite often they do well ,and on the other hand some sprint boys will put distance stuff into their sprint teams,just to toughen them up so they can work the strinters more often in the season,like sat, maybe sunday club,wednesday club ect and it can work that way as well.

cheers grizzle , yes think thats what i am going to do now i have had time to think about it. got a couple of strains from a couple of diffrent fanciers . and i will keep a couple the same way . what will be will be because i cant put winner to winner yet as i have none ha ha ha . i currently have ,donninos (janssen van loon based) and some .lefebre dehaens, from david who has replied to this thread. also i got some kirkpatricks ,and a van reet ,one chocholate mouleman and one van loon. what are your thoughts on this? what would you put together? just out of interest.what distance do the moulmans do? this is one strain i know totaly nothing about.

charles darwin was a pigeon fancier can i suggest you read up on what he has to say. also i will tell you about a pigeon when paired to 3 different hens bred a winner from each one to win at 350mls into northern ireland from the same race point, i now think the fancier was hoping to get that extra 150mls and bred birds for 500mls instead proved that 350mls being across the channel from england was still its limit
