After a week of training the old birds and losses like you wouldnt believe mostly because of the falcons, who this year seem ten fold and have been driving pembrokeshire fanciers bonkers, I wondered what everone eles does around the country, as to how many and how far you train old birds.

Just my way: Take them 30 miles before sun rise--let them watch the sun come up. After 3-4 days of this--they will not circle--but head straight home. I do this for the 9 days before the first race. You only want about 1 hour flight -ever day-..keep them in shape.

Nice 1 I do something similar, but with young birds, its too cold at sunrise here until about july when the young birds start. Some dont even train just fly them around the house to get fit, if they are experienced at racing.

Hi Lads, Yes I have had losses but not as bad as most, although I have lost 6 birds all raced to 200 miles from 20 MILE TOSS MADNESS. First time my birds went out a few weeks ago a perigrine took 1, then a few days later it was after them again, then waiting for trainers back and 2 dropped together perigrine appeared from nowhere and just missed 1 by inches, starting to really pixx me off. too frieghtened to go training at the momment lets hope they start sitting eggs soon just to give us a chance.
