i can see the point in this if theres yb sickness but to do as a precaution wouldnt this remove any healthy bacteria and lining in the crop

PostSubject: Re: cleansing the crop    cleansing the crop EmptyThu May 30, 2013 9:53 pm

Never heared anything so stupid in my life..seriously what are we talking about cleaning out crops.
I can just see every street pigeon, wood pigeon and dove lined up at my house ready for cleansing.
Get real look after your pigeons and have some common sence, as most people with pigeons seem to have lost their minds.

I have said this several times, there are doves nesting in our trees and again just today I stood under the roosting tree and the grass below had droppings we would die for, they eat shit and drink from the stream but they are healthy.

dont think cleansing the crop is a preventative for ybs.lots of guys will treat with potassium permingrate when they return.also i dont see the connection with racing/pigeon keeping and wild birds.i know someone who keeps 4 white fantails in a cote.all he does is put seed and water in it.the only thing that takes his birds is the bop.

Sean you are quite correct I treat for nothing, anyone is welcome at my loft they can see for themselves...I sent samples off to Belgica dewered before christmas and they came back negitive for everything.
I can tell you for nothing street pigeons and doves fly more than your pigeons mate, they are on the go all day every day to survive and not sitting in pigeon lofts and thats real.

Epson salts is one of those strange tonics/clensers Smile Smile for a better word. That has been around longer than any of us here Wink Wink in the sport. I have to admit some very good flyers swear by it & to them it must have a benefit some what. I have tried it lol! lol! in the past "every blue moon" type of thing. Now !!!! I prefer to use it when I have a bath Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes. Some adventurous type here my like to throw a handful in the birds bath water & see what happens. On a final note ??? what would someone be given their birds etc that would then require epson salts to clean there system out "Strange" someone may have an answer. cheers

PostSubject: Re: cleansing the crop    cleansing the crop EmptyFri May 31, 2013 10:01 pm

lads the only time I heard of this is when there's yb sickness in the loft, then I would get soda crystals with water injected into the crop then after that a charcoal tablet and leave the bird in question for 36 hours in isolation, other than that I put cider vinegar in the water on a Monday tue-wed garlic then on Thursday vitamins then on Friday clear water. I the birds are racing it would be honey in the water when they come home Saturday then clear water Sunday, then back again with vinegar on Monday. now I stand to be corrected on this method but it works for me, I read that about the soda crystals and charcoal on this site and it actually saved some good pigeons for friends of mine. some were actually resorting to burning the loft down when the sickness came but then I got the word to a few lads and it worked. now that's JMO lads hope this helps Smile

mate I would never use Epsom salts I only pointed out what I have heard but the reason I would not use it it takes the lining off the crop so I have been told
but what I was told was to use milk mix it wi 50-50 wi water then put enough in a drinker only to let the birds sip it then after a couple of hrs clean the drinker out and put fresh water in this takes the toxins out the crop best to use when returning from racing as all sorts of crap are picked up in the baskets sean

Catch some streeters and doves and put them in beside your racers and see what happens if there's nothing wrong with the wild birds scratch

Here you are lads were Epsom Salts is used ??

Yes an old fancier i know to the name of Billy O'Neil always used Epsom Salts but every 3 weeks and only a very small amount at a time so not to damage the crop lining

Billy also stared in the "Small is Beautiful 2" with Henry Gonzonlas of Bristol with Tony Cowan doing the interviewing

Interesting Don Smile Smile But !!!!!!! lol! lol! lol! what would a newcomer etc here think (A small amount) I would go Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes & be none the wiser.
So !!!!!!!! Wink Wink here is my bit on the subject now. A small amount to me would be 1 teaspoon to 2 litres etc for those that wish to use epson salts, but like most things we use there can be a wide variety in measurements either by weight or liquid. Just to prove my point (in a kind way) I have what I call my bible, not that I agree with everything that is written Smile Smile in it, but most has stood the test of time shall we say. Epson salts is a good purgative & should only be given on a empty stomach ??? lol! lol! I don't agree with the following thou. 4 tablespoons to a american gallon, which is about 3 3/4 litres Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes I think.
Enough said bounce bounce bounce The bible was written by Wendell Levi. cheers

To be honest i would say 1 teaspoon to at least 4 to 5 liters so it does not damage the internal organs as it can be harsh given to strong in the water

So Knackered i would say half the amount you have commented on Wink Wink

And yes i will agree with you 110% he was a top fancier down your way and i hold great respect for him as a person and fancier

Daz the best thoing to do is give the birds some timber which has been taken from a fire and is actual charcoal or even crush the chared timber up and place it in the loft

Thats best when they are breeding youngsters as they love it big time mate even placing soil in the loft they love it Wink Wink Wink

Interesting comment Kev, down here, many flyers me included only feed once per day 7/52. Even when on hoppers etc they never gorge themselves & I have always believed it's a much healthier way for the birds, as after 24hrs there crops are always empty etc & in it's own way is a self clensing diet so to speak. True about missing a feed etc Wink Wink as you say. Many of mine don't bother coming in when I feed them (Slackers) Smile Smile even up to 3 days & it's never hurt them one bit. Funny thing is lol! lol! more times than not the bloom on there feathers improves "Strange but true". cheers
