what do you all use regards nesting

what do you all use regards nesting material (ie) tabbaco stalks straw/haye ive was goin to use tabbacco stalks but on reading   about them on other sites im not sure whether too or no now      

i used straw from the pet shop .I sprayed some columbavac lice and mite spray in the bag and tied it up for a few days to kill any little nasty's birds seem to like it so im happy   

wheat straw mate, make sure it is well dry, no mould  

Sweet peas plants, dried out and cut to length end of year and some lice powder spinked on them, then hung in sack in garden shed for a month or more before using.

Nothing fancy at my place Rene    a cup full of dried sand & then pine needles etc "Cheap as chips" & not too complicated     which is the way I like all things.

Hi David alot of the lads over here are using tobacco stalks there meant to be great, we buy them in the pigeon supplies.

nest felt and barley straw but I sprinkle some loft guard under the felt first or diatomaceous earth to kill any nasties...found the tobacco stalks get damp after a while but birds do like um

Ye I find they get damp aswell but the birds love them, and there meant to kill any parasites, I was going to use hay but was told they carry mites so I avoided it.

do a lot of members use nest felts.
or just give them the bare bowl

Bare bowl and throw the tobacco stalks on the ground and let them build it from scratch. I found them mats get destroyed very quick

na its ok if ya spray it or put diatoms under bowl and if ya put nest felt in after the first 5 days they will last no problem but agree the cocks destroys um when he down in the bowl calling hen to nest so I don't put um in straight away

Yep dryed Sand first then some Pine Needle's ; But with the pine needles i soak them first in a wheelbarrow in some insectercide ;to get rid of any bugs that may be on them ; then dry them ;before using ; cheers

Sounds like     that fits into "the kiss theory" Killer    .  

A small sprinkle of sand in the bottom of the bowl them use straw and tobacco stalks

Here a tip place a small piece of felt in the box beneath the nest bowl and this will help stop lice and red mites food for thought

yes I heard this before don also a beer mat soaked in creosote ...have you tried the felt yourself don

I have never used felts I do use beer mates used to spray them with creosote but that is not as good as it was I spray the mates with duramite as it is when the mate dries that is when it is working I allso put redmite powder under the bowls and when they have laid I spinkle powder in the bowl and I use wheat straw for nesting I get a bail from a farmer over here that grows wheat. split the bail up and it last all season.
