just after a bit of advice from widow flyers ....as I am tight for space was thinking of using a widow box that's 18 inch wide by 16 deep and 14 high but the fronts can be set back 4 inch so was thinking on basket night to set the front back with hen in box and rest of the time let the cock have the whole box ...does the size of box really matter ,I don't think so but have never raced widow ...these are distance birds and will be on widow for their prep races then paired for their target races

my boxes r 23 '' wide mate 12'' deep I had no problems I just had to cut the plastic fronts down lol

hi ric thanks for yer reply m8 yeah these boxes have a dowelled front a one piece front that you can set back 4 inches ....in theory they should be fine especially as I wont be interested in the prep races

Flier here used cardboard boxes years back. Made no difference. Still flew well.
