racing pigeon strains.

Welcome to the site ginger, yes i agree there is no such thing as a pure breed of racing pigeon, great fanciers of the past like the osmands, barkers etc use to borrow pigeons that were exceptional to pair into birds of their own, with offspring being shared between the fanciers, i also read that durring the war a lot of pigeons were hid in belguim barns then after the war ended these ended up in belguim lofts, as they wee highly sought after birds as the english strain of birds

I will back you up there Ken, don't know if you know Billy O'Neil of Dudley Port here in the midlands he always said that the belguim fanciers had all our best pigeons during the war and it is from these's pigeons that they are racing birds from today

yes don, ive read something similar to what ken says about them being hid in belgium during the war..........

so were we think it is belguim pigeons that are the best, it may have been our british pigeons which started it all of

in a jansen bros write up jansen bros said, most of birds in war were taken by germans from belgium and holland for food

think i read somewhere that after the war pigeons were handed back to fanciers, but what they got was a mixed bunch of short and long distance birds which no-one knew what was what........when they all bred ybs they just became the fanciers own breed and took their name. (something like this anyway...)

youv a few different families steve, have you any janssens.....?

some stock and y/bs are jansen based hermans van loon van de merwe, most are soontjen crossed with v.d.b or wildemeersch

those soonjgens seem to be all over te place

must be a good cross a lot are using them

can yous guys tell what strain is what just by looking at them?

Can say one thing is they all have Janssen in them

maybe a son/grandson or relative don im sure there will be someone,if not ill have them

there will be somebody to carry on with them

i have 3 sons and none are interested in pigeons anymore,

1 of grandaughters are interested oldest cleans loft at home saturdays

got 2 daughters and 5 sons only 3 out of the 7 are interested
