| What do you guys think about the distance between cocks and hens during the Off season (like now) - and during the Racing season.
If you race Widowhood or Roundabout or any other form that keeps the hens away from the cocks most of the time, you must have a place to keep the hens.
When I first started, many years ago, an old fancier told me that he keeps his Widowhood hens as far away from his Widowhood cocks as he can. He had the hens and cocks at the complete opposite ends of his garden.
And I have heard of fanciers having their hens next door to the cocks - in the next section.
What do you peeps do?

| It does not matter to us as long as they cannot see each other |

| Mine live next door to one another ss long as they don't see each other they are just as keen . The only problem then is stopping the hens from pairing now that's another story . |

| When I raced I kept my hens at the other end of the garden, I know a lot of fanciers had them next to each other in the loft
Its what ever suites you but the main thing is they don't see each other |

I think Ray has a point. One of my mates in Holland has a sleeping area for his hens. It is a section with box perches, that are a bit smaller than the normal size. In front of those box perches, are fine mesh doors that fold out, in front of the birds, so they can not leave the box perch once they are in them. He also has box perches that do not allow each hen to see the ones next door, or above or below. I have made some box perches on the same lines, where the hens can not see anyone else when they are stood in the box perch. Phil |
