do members think when it comes to long distance racing the new strains are as good as the old , and in tough terrain not to mention the 100 mile plus channel cheers

I think the old birds are better myself..when I raced the old Westcott years ago I could practically guarantee they would make the long races.maybe not winning but there abouts. wish I still had them now

I have never had that family of birds but the old strain of birds were tried and tested over many generations and I bet a lot wish they still had what they had ,this is a different terrain than in europe cheers

New breeds tend to do well now be it short or long distance and looking at velocities these days they tend to be faster but saying that if you can still find the old breeds the right ones still win out of turn

don't the new breeds tend to have the old breed blood in them somewhere along the line...?

its a different ball game racing to our country than to belg or Holland out of france or spain for that matter ....a lot of successful strains in belg and Holland cant hack racing to these shores and eire is even harder still

in my view if you want to fly distance , and I mean 500 plus miles , then you need a special kind of pigeon , one that is prepaird to fly 600 miles on the day , in any conditions , and get up at first light and try again then you can say you have channel pigeons.

although ive not done much racing since I re started again, ive never fancied distance racing, but recently ive been quite attracted to the idea, and maybe , once I get back racing properly might have a go at it.....I would like to race in the mnfc but basketing would be a problem.

too far to go edgie, I think the basketing station is miles away, plus its back again with the clock if I did get a decent bird...

I hope I am wrong david but I think you will always be a pigeon keeper, and not a pigeon racer ,you don't seem to have that fire in you , so sit back and enjoy your birds in the garden . cheers
