from a fancier in herts when I first started up he gifted me a pair that was 7 year ago now I was talking to jack Bolitho (cousin jack bhw scribe for 50 years but no longer) and said I would like some as my grandfather had a loft full in his day and it just so happened his best m8 Patrick o'reily had some from the old Hammond and whittaker grooters which were my grandfathers source too ,these are very cherished here as they carry a lot of sentiment ,sadly pat passed away just over 6 months ago but we had some great times together in those 7 years ...god bless ya pat |

| 20 years ago imported 10 pair from Hammond and Whittaker. Chocolates, blues, reds. Had a partner share the expense. Bred lots off them. They were the poorest pigeons I ever owned. Could not win anything at any distance. Guy in the US had imported some years earlier. Same results. They just do not work over here. But again, neither do Aardens. Climate? Do not know. Strange! 3 years then got rid of them. |

| my grandfather had the bronze grizzles and blues and paired they threw the silver grizzles but the bronze and blues were the best when I did a bit of research I read that ernest grooter used the hansenne pigeons and wegg but theirs very little info out their as ernest was a loner,my grandfather won some stiff races with the grooters and they only really shine on a long hard day when the chips are down my grandfathers best days were in the 70's with the grooters quite some time before yours hal ...I just got the pair for nostalgia a trip down memory lane |

| I apologize! Friend has some Ardens and they do well. He went over and picked them out. Buschaerts no one has any more here. Van Loons do good and old Desmathys etc plus all the new stuff from Europe. Hofkens etc,. However as time goes on they also taper off. The offspring. Jannssens seem to stand the test of time although probably no such thing as a pure strain. Inbreeding keeps them pure, or close to the original.Mexican Jannssens particularly. Guy there won everything 3 years in a row. They disbanded the club. He bred generation after generation, never let them out but culled heavy. When a few came on the market in Texas years ago they cleaned up. Interesting indeed! His originals were selected by Piet de Weerd. |
