Derby Disaster

Today was the first car race for Derby Arona One loft race, At the start they had 3,200 pigeons and after 13 tosses they had 1500 left so a lot of losses.
But today the Car race was a disaster they sent 1500 pigeons and at close of day there are now 143 birds at the loft, Im not sure whats happened but that's got to be the worst one loft disaster on record.
I had 1 bird out of my 7 that was left..feeling sad.

Massive losses their hope they work their way back in best of luck with the one you have left

Terrible that,,blame the convoyer lol.everyone else does

I feel your pain Rudd either you got out of the bed on the wrong side etc on the day or some one else did unfortunately there. Let's just hope a few more drift through over the next few days to help ease the pain .

Its a right kick in the parts the sun never shines but if you want a disaster remember when The Racing Pigeon did a one loft race and had a loft on top of the posh hotels like the Hilton or savoy and all the pigeons were lost

The loft manager was Terry Peart

Fingers crossed more pigeons get back

149 back and I think that will be it. Looking at the wether chart would say the wind has pushed them past the island and there's nothing but boats to land on. Hell of a shock for a yacht to have 1500 pigeons land on it.

Hard to find any thing positive with the way things turned out there CC     I would suggest. Water can do strange things to pigeons I've found etc. Best Rudd just place his effort in the memory bank & not loose any sleep over some thing that was not under his control as such.

I have just looked at their site and a video they are showing.

As far as I can see the birds took over 20 minutes to clear the vibration point. Then on arrival the first birds back took over 5 minutes to come in.

If this is a taste of what these people have to offer, I am not surprised they have had such massive losses.

Hi Lads Out of the 1,500 pigeons just about 330 have made it back, I had 3 back so although gutted as Im 4 away I can be happier than most as there are many wiped out. They did take over 20 minutes to clear Lib point, so I think they just didn't want to fly out across the ocean, but some brave birds did.

Makes it very interesting now as theres a lot of money to be won and few birds to win it, as they tend to loose a few hundred every toss not sure if any will make the final, What happens then to the prize money is anyones guess.

Here Rudd there has always been a debate about whether the birds should be released on the waters edge or taken in land as such etc when we have our races over the water here. I much prefer the birds to get a good run before they hit the water but others here suggest on average it makes no differance.

There's always some that will make it .very rarely they all get wiped out..I could be wrong but I have nevery heard of a total wipe out myself ..please correct me if I am wrong it will be interesting to hear some stories

True Ray    . Would be interesting I also would suggest etc if one was to pin point on a map type of thing there any that may get reported from the race. I suspect they may be far & wide with where some may have finished up at the end of the day.

Yes I totally agree with this theory and feel when the birds are flying head down heading home and they meet the water they are more likely to go over, I do think part of the problem is that they are released on the coast and have to make a decision to cross then. We live in Pembrokeshire and have seen the IRISH pigeon released in Talbeny which is close to the coast sometimes they go but sometimes they will fly all day up and down the coast and refuse to go and then perish.
