2018 breeding plans.

2018 breeding. My friend who usually picks up my unwanted pigeons has not been in touch with me after notifying him had a bunch to cull. So, not wanting to pull heads, may have to keep them all. I have the room. All are split up now. Have some cocks that returned from a race with bands cut off. 5 of them. I intend to mate them to hens that have performed well and fly the hens. Have to limit young birds to 40. Have about 100 birds here. Trying to get back to essentials. So will raise off the reds and two blues in the stock loft. Previous winners or sires of winners. 7 pair. Will use 7 pairs as pumpers. 28 young. 2 outstanding (my opinion only) race birds will get 4 young from. Remaining 12 will come from 3 pairs of young birds from the reds. The white stray hen has shown she has guts. Will take 2 from her. Old and young, all will have to race very well this year to be kept. Strenuous season ahead for them. What is fit flies. Stock loft cocks will have lights on 3 weeks ahead of mating. Have found two weeks ahead is ok for hens but cocks need 3. Or infertile eggs occur. Dec 25th I intend to mate stock birds. Racers February. That is the plan so far. Have to plan now for 2018. Birds almost through the moult and looking good. They go on a cheaper ration soon. Did notice a few hens have 11 flights. Have not seen that in a while. Advantage or disadvantage? No idea!

We are also thinking about the 2018 breeding season, but not sure what we are actually going to do.

We leave frogland (forever) at 10:00 a.m. on Monday 30th October. We will not arrive in Gloucestershire until 22:00 hours Monday night.

We have had to rent a holiday cottage for a couple of weeks as we still have no Completion date for our new house, but we think it will be around 8th or the 10th November.

Then we have to move in, get all our kit sorted out then get the birds sorted out.

There are three existing sheds at our new place, but I am not sure if any of them will be suitable.

I would like to get our stock birds settled in asap and trustfully pair them up by mid to lat December.

We will be racing roundabout again next season as per usual. .about 33 pair in total but a few will just get the short races up to 160 miles . The rest about 400 miles..we will breed about 60 to 70 ybs ourselves as we have a lot coming in, probably about 24 to 30 ..all hens will be locked up because that's where we went wrong last season, the hens that got locked up where great the others totally rubbish . You learn by your mistakes

All to early for me this talking about breeding still trying to move some more birds to make room

im hoping to get this new loft up in time for yb racing next year, so as long as its ready to put my 2018 young birds in that's ok....im hoping to have a yb team of around 30 for my self to race, which will consist of both janssens and van reets, so looking forward to have a go at racing again, after not being able to for the past few years.

Will be breeding 40 for 2018 this year i brought some of Davids Van Reets in plus 6 Jos Thone x Van Loons in these are to get me over the 400 mile mark so looking forward to see what these birds produce i still have by Melderts and Hybrects and R & B Smiths Blood to Blend to see if i can get a few good 60-400 mile pigeons looks good on paper but lets see what happens looking for the needle in the haystack springs to mind , well thats my plans

I still have the soontjen x meldert cock you bred me in around 2010 / 2011 ...??? he chose his own hen this year and bred a yb which was completely white apart from a couple of chequered feathers on its back..........not sure where that came from eh......

Lol think the hen must have been playing away from home lol, the old fella and his hen have long gone now but i still have sons daughters grandChildren from them i found then to be a good sprinter upto 250 mile
these are all blues and blue white flight i did get one Gay Pied but this was because i got too inbred and had to put a cross into him he bred me a blue hen last year which was always in the first 4 birds to the loft so hoping for better 2018

not sure how long the rpra keep them for phil, but ive done a bit of research, and the fancier who entered the pigeon had 3 home in the final, and has done well previously in other one loft races.
