| do any members use a whistle for trapping their young birds, rathr than just rattling a corn tine etc.....if so what type is it, and where did they buy it from.
also when does "whistle training " start, in the nest, on weaning, or when they start going out....? |

| I think I made a terrible decision on my choice of whistle. ME. I use my dog whistle which is just a short series of "trilling". I was out on a quad ride last fall, and while calling my young dog away from a cow moose, one of my hens landed on the the front rack. I wasn't prepared for the sudden visit though! I went rolling off my quad like a little girl! I was five miles from home too. I had no idea the pigeons would do that. Now I just yell at my dogs. Good topic David. Im interested. |

| Usual type dave is a referee's whistle never used one before but would think using it when the young are in the nest and blowing it gently when feeding the stock birds would be the right way as we are trying to condition them ( big brother type of thing) from the start of their life |

| Mark, do you think it is too late to retrain my birds to a referee whistle? |

| No ROM you can train young or old to anything be it a whistle or going through a Sputnik trap or Bob wires you just have to keep on doing it every day |

| yes mark, ive read about some fanciers "training " ybs in the nest, every time they feed the parents they gently blow the whistle so the ybs eventually associate the sound with food, so when they are weaned they already have an idea what its all about. |
