Seems like most fanciers I know are bringing in new birds. One fellow buys a dozen a year from Mike Ganus. Another fellow 30 a year (all young birds) from CBS. some other folks, one that moved to the East coast, has just imported a dozen. He said he likes to try new stuff. In fact he receivd stock birds from his old strain when he lived in Ontario also. TMak also imports yearly. But after spending thousands on imports over the years I beleive his original Oude Vos Jannsens from Gallez make up 40% or so of his birds. Meandering here. I think most fliers have a few very good birds. Perhaps very few. Surely the simplest, cheapest way would be to concentrate on them? Race them hard and cull them hard. Only then bring in something new. Mine all go this year to whatever races are on that weekend. Qualify that. Whatever birds are in shape healthwise. Told my wife something similar. Her reply? "About time! Spend more time with them they will do better! Remember when you won most of the time years ago? You used to sit in the loft with them with a bottle of beer. Then talk baby talk to them!" Ummm..what does she know? But there again.....
