Finally racing!!

Sent 27 yearlings 155 miles. Over half never raced. 2 20 mile tosses only. Strong headwind, rain 70% some sun. Zero expectations of winning but is a good workout for them.

Put all your thoughts into your first one Hal I suggest . Then you can start worry, worry worrying about the follow up etc there .

Just after 3pm here. As of 2pm had 9 home. Have not looked since. Weather was so cold early morning my fingers turned white in the gloves as I was cutting grass.We fly from the East. Hard North West wind and cloudy. No sun. Knew it was going to be tough so fed them extra peanuts. Guys at the club remarked on the full crops.
But here it gets interesting!! Late release because of weather. First bird home was at about 1100 mpm! Also 2nd bird! First bird it was his first race! Flying to the nest, all were. The birds came in singles. Quit clocking after an hour. 9 home. 5 cocks, 4 hens. 4 previously raced, 5 not.
To me that makes my day! Minimal training, full feed, open loft. How did I make out? Do not know nor really care! 50 mile overfly here. Probably get more back but they are loners apparently. Clock times emailed in as with countermarks etc numbers. They will all be checked next week. Never a discrepancy.
Seems to me this non-system is working.
Update. 3.30. 8 more back.

Chances are he won't I suggest Don but with 17/27 home at this stage under the conditions on the day there, I suspect Hal will be more than pleased by night fall with his returns, along with maybe a few more stragglers tomorrow type of thing there. For certain type people it may appear he threw them all to the wolfs as such as fodder I suspect, but on average with every thing taken into consideration I feel he has had a successful weekend there, at least by my standards & with my mindset     .

Stick to it Hal, there is so much bull talked about methods etc; many WINS are gained in spite of and not because of.

Fanciers using all the latest fads should look in the fields when they think the pigeons are flying for two hours etc;

No doubt they are looking for a cure for all the rubbish fanciers put down their throat.

You will certainly enjoy any success knowing your pigeons are being treated in a proper manner.

25 home by last night. More than pleased!! Reults probably Wednesday but they are not important. All the birds look in good shape.

I liked the bit about your birds being heavy, numerous times when marking my birds they have said how full they were and too heavy, but mine were always back in the loft on the day in most instances and before those who sent birds with enough fuel for exactly the distance of the race and making no provision for problems encountered, I have written about this several times.

That is the reason for many losses, the birds on liberation not having the fuel to do the task asked of them.

Modern type mixes down fall of many a pigeon I suggest O/S in many lofts etc if you get it wrong.

This coming week end probably different. No yearlings just older birds. The four best racers last year I stocked. So will be without my good uns. However, best to best was the plan and sticking with it.
Now this may be of interest. Club member not flying old birds this year was here on Race day and left 30 minutes before birds arrived. I had given him 3 pairs of stock birds. One of the pair bred me the first bird here. Another pair bred me the 4th bird here. He was happy when I told him! Birds were free of course. Last club I was in the President disbanded it and went to a bigger club. German guy. Looks down on nest flying. London Invitational he went to. They have cleaned up last two weeks racing. Numbers, drag whatever. I had 4 in the Fed ahead of his first one.
In the Fed was 72 and 73 with first two. About 500 birds. 30 some fliers. My nine were all in first 100.
Live trap had a cat in today. I relocated the cat.

Not really Hal the way I think etc the extra 54 miles there brings it down some what. All up looking good as such so well done.
