| ive quite a lot of wood pigeons around me denise, also crows and magpies, but they have never bothered my pigeons in any way.....even the squirrels go about their business and don't interfere with the pigeons....the pigeons don't give them a second glance, probably because they are used to seeing them every day ..
Seen many who have thought that. Squirrels will devastate your loft once in. Eggs / young or old will be destroyed ... Crows can and will attack and kill young birds when first out... Known 3 lofts devasted, plus heard of many more that have had it happen. Strange how the myth keeps Raptures etc. away as they are often seen aggravating them. Mind they won't go near if they are hungry as they make short shrift of them. Even seen, just recently, a Red Kite turn and chase a crow. |

| yes daz, ive read recently a fancier or two where bothered by the presence of magpies for when their young birds arrived home from training, personally apart from the odd screeching noise or startling the pigeons, the magpie has so far never bothered my birds in the 10 years ive had them....the collared dove/ wood pigeons actually peck around the garden with my pigeons, and sit in the willow tree together....squirrels are always about, but so far havnt got into the loft, I reckon it wouldn't be a good thing if they did so ive fitted half inch wire in the gaps where I have ventilation at roof level as a precaution.
my main enemy at the moment is sparrow hawk and cat...... |

| A few here, the U.k have - like Bill Butterfield too in Canada - has had devastating hits via crows waiting for youngsters going out. They have been killed. Bill's seemed to be hit hardest when they landed on roof. He - as the Fifer here - lost complete y/b race team.
Me I scare of crows as soon as I can. As Dave Roger's once told me.... B.O.P soon make short work of them as and when they feel like it... Especially in winter or hungry. Strange, but I feel it must be right and makes sense is the adage 'You'll never seen them bombard a HUNGRY one'. Let alone chase them off. |
