| our birds are at newbury tomorrow 166 miles to me with a N,.E wind against them this is going to take them about 3.30 mins plus so i gave them some extra beans to give them some extra fuel to get home with , right or wrong thing to do ? |

hi mark, im no expert but i dont see any harm in giving a bit extra to help them against the bad weather............. |

| well i normaly give them extra bulk food on channel racers and long distance as tomorrow will be a hard race and will take them as long as a long distance race thought be a good idea to treat them as so. |

| yes, could give them that little bit of energy etc they might need........if the weATHERS BAD IM SURE THEY WILL WORK IT OFF..... maybe a lot will do the same, you never know if could make them come better for you. |

| Mark be a bit carefull with to much food in them could make them bring it up in the basket |

yes i agree ginger, but if mark fed them early enough before basketting would it be ok.....? |

| It depends on how early he feeds them I give mine peanuts which are soft and esaly digested and full of protine |

| yes ginger that sounds good advise, heard some give small seed on friday afternoon to encourage the birds to have plenty of water too........??? do you? |

| No I dont do anything acept peanuts if they need them be carefull with peanuts if you give too many they will get hyper |

| havnt raced for years ginger but just going to race ybs this year, ive given them peanuts and some of them seem to like them but others dont seem that interested in them..........would you recommend giving ybs them during racing or just obs? |

| David with young birds give them 4or 5 in there box they will take them you will find that eventuly will get use to them and run to you for them |

| i fed them in the morning so they will have digested it before transporting.however didnt do them any difference as they were 25 mins behind every one else; |

ah right, ill need to start them on to peanuts shortly as if it helps in any way ill do it.............only racing 9 yb races so want to do as good as i can. |

| giving your birds the right food for a hard race starts days before there due to go me my self is a heavy feeder and today payed off with all my first birds being yearlings they have been having a heavy mix with peanuts sunflower hearts they are high energy and releases it slowly in to there body and today it payed off they had a hard race today but tonight there back to normal if there working hard feed them well . |

| hi david , yes races like these you all ways get members who normaly behind in fast races come to the fore in realy hard ones like today in my mind w/hood don,t like cold ne winds as there not fed for the job in hand like today where every ounce of energy is required . |

| sounds like you are right in your thoughts re widowhoods, most i would think will be widowhood maybe so with weather being cold winds it will explain the returns etc..... |

| david today would have sorted out the weat from the chaff , you don,t get many weekend like this during the season today sorted them out and i found out a lot about my birds today what as come as earned it perch for one more week . |

| yes kev, by what ive heard/read the ones back have earned their perch for a while longer...... hopefully the weather will get better fom now on and there will be some good races for those sending. the winds been very cold tho`, i even didnt put the bath out for ybs today. |
