This is the whole point, mistreat animals and there will be a price to pay.

50 years ago no one took notice when I said clinical conditions and adopting the continental methods would ruin our own pigeons health and abilities, this was before YBS and vaccination etc;

The same appears to be the case today no one is bothered and will just start to bother when it affects them personally which it will eventually, but too late.

Misty you are right. However the hog and poultry industry here cannot cope without vaccines and medications. Here is a classic example. My son manages a 2500 sow herd of sows. These are genetically engineered to provide larger litters than normal via the African swine factor. 5 litters a year instead of 2.5. All sold on contract. Money maker. No problems for 7 years. 4 month or so ago new vet, female came to examine them. All shower in and out and wear barn supplied coveralls and clothes. Also a truck from the US came to load pigs for customers down there. Trucker not allowed off the truck. Anyway, PERS virus got in. Vet did not wash her hair? No one knows. OK. One cannot ship pigs with PERS virus. Takes 3 months, 3 weeks before being tested again. Coming up soon. The owner has a few thousand acres of cropland. Also chicken barns. All automated etc,. One loses money the other operation covers it. Not now. Cost of hog feed, electricity, other stuff is $20 million at present. If the herd is cleared of the virus then will still be a long uphill battle. Just pointing out viruses are usually self inficted in pigeons. By the owners.
