I only raced them after breeding a YB, I think that was the bond required with the loft and nest box. I did things a little different, once they had fed the yb for a few weeks then came onto the second drive I trained short tosses 2 or 3 times a day back to the hen, took her away before she laid. In their minds the cocks were driving all season, not just racing back to the hen and box. Worked for me with a small team winning from 84 miles through to 420 miles but didn't make average birds into winners but did allow average birds to take 4ths and 5ths now and again. I only had 3 or 4 regular winners including a cock with 9x 1sts racing this way. Not sure how racing dry would work but imagine good performance will come if the motivation and love of home suits them on this method. If you got 2 sections could you try paired v unpaired to get your answer?

Tried dry a couple of times both poor results and problems in the loft. I only let them sit one round 10 days then split. More fighting among the cocks and hens are quick to pair to each other. Not for me.

thanks lads yes think I will stick with letting them rear a round besides I like a few of the pairings so would like to try some ybs off them ...barnie I think most lofts rely on 3/4 pigeons as a rule with a small team ,unfortunately I don't have enough pairs to do 2 systems I only have 9 race cocks could have 12 maximum but the team is getting to that number I don't think anymore is required anyway provided the quality is their ,this season will be a real pointer as to whether the yearlings perform off the new stock I was happy enough with them as ybs ...atb
