Pigeons did not seem to go far from the loft.
Would prefer to see them high in the sky.
Must be a nightmare looking after so many.
Lets just hope for the best.

Nightmare for me I'm Misty would be inoculating them all for PMV & the like etc.

dont worry oz they aint daft they get the breeders of the ybs to do it before they are sent to the one loft thats why they dont want them there too young and have to be at least 35 days old

Yes old strain. For a fact, some, especially some German's send y/b's that have flown a season of races back home. After being, or settling themselves down, when released they realise it's too far etc. Then remember where they got their last feed. return and race. Apparently.

Thought the only initial treatment allowed was the compulsory vaccination.
If some are and some are not using other preventative medication it is not a fair playing field.

the one loft uses a few tonics in the water ,i noticed a few bottles laying about when there dropping birds off last year ,i also had a chat with the loft hand for a few minutes who incidentally was flat out i am sure they use some form of organic acid to ph the water to ,think they use bucktons corn mixes ,they did last year ...all down to sponsorship of course £

Tonics Reminds me here O/S of when I travelled from one side of the country here to the other side as such to visit the man that first brought the Planet brothers pigeons into the country. Had more tonic type mixtures there than a chemist to keep his pigeons safe & well .

Be very interesting, as I have suggested several times, not to treat the OL for anything and just see how many are drug dependant, and how many survive.
Bet you could get those left into a nut shell as it were.

Would be most interesting I suggest but suspect thou many OL Races would have a very short life type span some how I feel on average. *****

May 18th, 2020 Good Afternoon
Please see two more videos below one is a walk through the lofts and the other is a video of them flying out the last few days with a video edit done by John Gwent.
The birds are progressing well its just a case of getting them all flying and kitting up well enough to start short training which normally starts the first week of June.
I will update you with more news and a video of when this will happen nearer the time.
Mid June will see a full loft list as to what birds are in the lofts after the first 3 months and then we will be pushing on with the training.
I hope everyone is keeping well , we are starting to see some light at the end of the tunnel and all being well domestic racing will start in June.
I will update again towards the end of next week on how the birds are progressing regards to flying and trapping etc.
Jeremy..

Would be a success in its self if all five are there oldstrain.
Many things can go wrong in a OL with so many pigeons involved.
Once read where gig nob entered 10 pigeons in OL races and thought it great if 3 made the final.

Don sums it up in reality.
A half decent fancier once said with plum in mouth a realism of truth. 'The best birds are in your loft'. Ok times moving on and the B.0.P. problem has, undoubtedly, taken a toll. However the sentiments are as true to day as always. Yes we all lament a bird lost.
How ever, surely, what is left and placed against the lofts faring and performance is, and has to be a 'Yard Stick' to all and sundry.
Time to make reasonings count. One thing for sure, if you do the same next season, can one honestly expect better results? Indeed logged and able to look over the past three years, for example and placed side by side the truth must be noted surely.
Excuses for birds lost is sadly, futile. Water under the bridge. Seasons performances tell the story of truth mostly. Ignored at peril.
Culls breeding culls because they were costly to buy. Or having a great pedigree etc. Neither flies.
Immunity and good constitutions lost, needs laying the blame squarely where it belongs... At the fanciers feet. So if the performances are letting you, and the birds down, something, surely, needs to change! Excuses won't help a jot now, will they!

There was more to that than meet the eye as Breakaway was raced in the area I live and the stories which go around vary alot
But one off the best secretaries in the business was George Westwood and what he told me was for me the truth but what George told me stays with me
But there was a film with footage of Breakaway on it for the 60/90 seconds you see the champion he was a fantastic pigeon.
Here's one story I was told
When Breakaway was marked and placed in the race basket the pigeon always worked his way to the front off the basket and any pigeon which came close to him Breakaway would flick his wing at them to keep them away from him
So when you looked in the basket there was always an area clear around Breakaway
One night the fanciers at the club said I wonder if breakaway could find the front off the basket in the dark they took him out the basket and placed him in a different basket in the dark and yes true to form Breakaway went straight to the front of the basket
What a pigeon hey
His Owner Ron Green was a fantastic pigeon fancier who was the best at conditioning pigeons to race but there is one thing Ron told me was Breakaway was only feed Barley from the farm if he had the food that's available to feed today like depurative Breakaway would have won loads more.
Food for thought hey

Well Don the beauty of thoughts eh!
Food for thought hey!
But ten again nigh everyone was feeding 'Farm Feeds if able. Indeed a very good farmer started a Pigeon store selling Farm Feeds for pigeons which nigh al, if not every one bought from. Indeed he had a welcome and thanks night around Christmas with free grub etc.
Likewise Cooks farm near Louella's in Leicestershire. Very many are still using the farm feeds from there. And doing well of course, and at least half the costs. Yes they do stock other 'Named Feeds' but … So maybe he would do better, but then the others would still be as close, and probably not any farther behind. Its a who knows what thought. However I don't for a minute thing that any feed makes A. The fancier. Nor the bird I guess. J.M.O.
