Believe Breakaway was lost from a 60 mile training toss.
On several occasions the liberator said he distinctly saw a pied pigeon break away from the pack and head home.
A one off and who can explain why ?.

Frank Tasker told me, thet the best Fancier he ever knew for conditioning a pigeon, just one even, for a race was, in his mind, certainly Arthur Beardsmore.
- I'd say not far from you Don... He came here a few times s he was a mate of a local fancier.
As for me, undoubtedly Jimmy White fron the Pentland Scotland. He told me 'Winners' months a head. as I have posted as such. He also, with observation, knew the substitute when things didn't go to plan.

Frank Taker was one of the first to introduce the darkness system and the continental ways and in the end to the detriment of our sport and the health of our pigeons.
Short term gain long term problems, a I said going continental would do.
Proof of the pudding state of the health of present day pigeons.

UPDATE MAY 28TH May 28th, 2020 Good afternoon
A little video of the YBS this morning each week bigger groups are getting higher and some working away from the lofts each week they progress just that little bit more.
At some point next week they will be loaded onto the trailer which I will show you a video of this etc.
I am also sorting out the data base and timing to give you a list of the YBS currently in the lofts , will inform you of when loaded.
They will be coming off the darkness just after the longest day and then first week of July the longer training starts.
I hope you are all keeping well and can enjoy the glorious weather we are currently having.
Jeremy..

Knackered if it was me in this heat it would have to very light food nothing heavy as it's harder for the pigeons to digest and then the dreaded YBS starts
You dont want steak in this heat you want salad something cool and light no stog
More important to keep them hydrated with plenty off sugar/electrolites or better still Honey and Lemon

MMMMMMMMMMMmmmmmmmmm plenty here feed them a salad mix now etc Don Trouble is I'm unless your a sprint freak type that enjoys a wind up the backside come race day, they just have nothing in the tank when things turn into a header type moment on average & with us racing in winter here as such for the early type races. *****

Well a very good friend of mine. A national winner but North and South told me. I have always used Canary seeds or such, once in a while for conditioning, and A little Linseed before feeds once a week, and before feeding after a race! However regards for racing he told me 'Roly small seed is good. But use very sparingly'!

alot wont feed it full stop daz ...ours always have it in their diet though a small amount but when the longer or a difficult race comes about then the fats are fed from as early as wednesday and always on race return not alot but some ,small feed for main feed would be barley, wheat (very picky about quality of wheat) safflower ,cardy, mixed 50/50 with gerry plus but when temps settle down again gerry and some peas added but not too many we do 4 scoops of gerry to 1 scoop breed and wean it works here and if it aint broke dont fix it i did all that chopping and changing and once i stopped and adopted my own way through my own thoughts things started to come together
we have a natural yb weaned end of march and has 4 flights to go should be through the wing before racing starts ,lights on from longest day til end of season no darkies here ever again

You can have several fanciers of equal standing and not one will feed the same, from beans only to everything one can lay their hands on.
If it works for you BINGO.

How many hours Misty have flyers spent working out some magic type mix, hoping to find success as such on race day. All bollocks on average I suggest & as you say Bingo if your fortunate enough to find a mix that works with what you do with your birds & be dammed if it just doesn't quite fit in, with what the so called experts on the matter spruik these days at times. *****

Knackered that's were your wrong i'm not a sprint freak type I like sprint to middle distance upto 400 miles
I feed pigeons according to the weather not to have nothing in the tank as that's no good for man nor beast.
Knackered put it this way you go to work for a week but your only allowed to eat 1 apple for breakfast and 1 apple for tea and 1 glass of milk
Is the wind up your backside going to make you work harder

Your all talking about the food but one food which a large majority of fanciers don't realise what benefits it holds and thats
Barley a fantastic corn, farmers use it to fatten up pigs

if i could get good quality i would use it but unless you buy beyers locally here it is the quality is awful very flat bone dry and dull not plump and golden ...the beyers is great stuff but £13 a bag last time i looked is a rip off its brewing quality though and very good

I always fed the YB with a typical high protein no maize breed and wean mix, but starting off afresh I've opted for a much lighter small seed high carbohydrate mix, the YB,s are up off the bottom and finding their wings twice as fast now, last baby out of nest last Sunday, up doing a few laps twice a day already. Would probably thicken mix up a bit for racing few days before basketing but my days of peas, beans, tares, maples etc now finished. Time will tell though!
Darren try and find a stockist for LE South Feeds in your area, best barley I've ever seen £7 a bag here!

Yes Barley and wheat are a main stay, depending on time of year and to what purpose. Carb and small seeds will give the birds a good start, But is used up within 15 - 20 minutes tops. then the bird will fly on 'Fat'. Danger then is when the fat is gone the bird with start burning up the units of heat from the muscles. Not good, and largely a cause for Toxins in the blood.

it is protracted that 3 grams of fat is used per hour flying time obviously blow home dont come into it i am talking headwind or crosswind so as the season progresses and so to the distance then the fats are brought into play earlier and earlier ,mine get an element daily so there fat reserves are always topped up ...you need to read the weather and conditions for the race at the beginning of the week so you can set yer stall out so to speak ,sometimes it will change come raceday and theres nowt you can do but still prepare eh i am trialing chia seeds this year in the "fat mix"but there very small we also use linseed ,safflower and peeled sunflower hearts a small amount of rape seed as its toxic to the birds ,groats are added to ...will have a look at that colin thanks

True Barnie Time will tell etc I suspect . Strange thing is here I've seen more pigeons in my time, fly 5/6/700 odd miles on mainly a pea diet, than I will ever see on a barley/wheat diet as such, even thou they are supposed to be like a poison to a pigeon come race day. & take care.
